The Boyd County Fiscal Court tabled the second reading of a proposed ordinances that would create a Regional Jail Authority.
"We are going to step back and take a closer look at this," Boyd Judge-Executive Bud Stevens told the Court. "I got information this morning that we need to look at that I didn't know before."
Commissioner Carl Tolliver made a motion to table and the motion passed unanimously.
"We need to have time to talk to other people besides just one that isn't even here today," Tolliver said. "We are trying to answer for him."
Tolliver was referencing Joey Stanton, who was hired by Boyd to consult on the Boyd jail's financial issues.
Roughly 20 jailers from across the state attended Boyd County's special Fiscal Court meeting in Wednesday morning.
The group, along with Kentucky Jailer Association President Mike Simpson, attended to show disapproval of the ordinances.
"We are all elected officials and we are facing difficult financial times," Simpson told the Fiscal Court. "None of us will ever be out of the jail business, and we believe that you don't want to lose your personal control of your jails."
Carter County Jailer RW Boggs also addressed the court, stating that the numbers being presented about the Regional Jail Authority don't make sense.
"Together we are a failed entity," Boggs said. "If you pass this ordinance, Carter will lose the Federal prisoner contract, we don't have contracts with other counties, and State inmates are being let go every day. Then you are looking at a $700,000 loss."
Carter County will have a meeting on the ordinances on Tuesday, May 29 at 10 a.m.
