Comets fall to Heath in All "A" State

Jan. 27, 2012 —  

After defeating Webster County in its first round game of the Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic, the West Carter Comets were defeated in its second-round game against Heath, falling 48-42.

Journal-Enquirer sports will have more on the Comets trip to Frankfort in next week's edition.

    The West Carter Comets escaped a near upset in the first round of the 62nd District Tournament, as it held on to defeat the Elliott County Lions, 58-54.

  • Air Force contract saved for Olive Hill firm

    U. S. Sen. Mitch McConnell announced Friday afternoon that Federal Prison Industries (FPI) had decided not to pursue a contract that would have eliminated 100 jobs in Olive Hill.

    “This is great news for the entire Olive Hill community,” McConnell said in a statement released by his Washington office. “I am pleased the right decision was made and the jobs of the 100 hard working employees at the company will now be saved.”

  • Carter definitely moving to 5th Congressional District

    The Kentucky House passed a new congressional redistricting bill Friday afternoon that moves Carter County into the 5thDistrict of U. S. Rep. Hal Rogers.

    The Senate approved the compromise bill earlier in the day. It went to Gov. Steve Beshear who was expected to sign it.

  • York, Adkins to square off in 99th District

    State Reps. Jill York, R-Grayson, and Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, have filed candidacy papers to run for the House seat now held by Adkins in the 99th District.

    York’s former 96th District seat was relocated to Fayette County.

    The new 99th District consists of all of Carter and Elliott counties and parts of Boyd and Lawrence counties.

  • Webb spared in GOP redistricting plan

    State Sen. Robin Webb, D-Grayson, would not face another incumbent senator in a legislative redistricting bill filed Wednesday by the Kentucky Senate Republican leadership.

    Her 18th District would retain Carter and Greenup counties and lose four others – Lewis, Mason, Bracken and Robertson – and pick up neighboring Boyd.
