Aug. 18, 2010 — Mr. Ronald B. Boggs

1938 – 2010

OHIO – Mr. Ronald B. Boggs,  71, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away August 9, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria, Ohio, following a short illness.

Mr. Boggs was born August 14, 1938, in Grayson, a son of Mae Easterling Boggs of Grayson, Ky, and the late Lawrence Boggs.

Ronald was a resident of Elyria, Ohio, the past 37 years after moving from Grahn, Ky.

He worked for Invacare in Elyria for over 15 years, retiring in 1994. Ronald was a member of Christian Unity Church in Grafton, Ohio.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Eythel James Boggs of Elyria, Ohio, a son, Mark Boggs of Elyria, Ohio; a granddaughter, Sarah Boggs-Roig of Elyria, Ohio; two sisters, Naomi Ratcliff of Grayson, Ky,  and Lorraine McGlone of Cartersville, Georgia.

Funeral services were held   August 14, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Tom James and Brother John Jordan officiating.

Burial followed in the Easterling Cemetery on Upper Stinson Road in Grayson, Ky.

Rebecca Glendine Ison Hicks

1927 – 2010

WEBBVILLE – Rebecca Glendine Ison Hicks, 82, of Webbville, Ky, died August 10, at the King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland,

She was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Carter County, a daughter of the late Isom and Beatrice Ison.

She was a retired cook working in several restaurants in Grayson, a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s, and a founding member of the Webbville Community Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clifford H. Hicks; two sons, Rodger and Donnie Hicks; one grand-daughter, Angela McKenzie, five brothers, Herbert, Edgar, Bob, Lawrence, and Fredrick Ison.

She is survived by a daughter, Rewanna (James) Carter; three sons, Ronnie (Linda) Hicks, Eddie (Eileen) Hicks, Lyle Hicks; nine grand-children, Christie Sagraves, Tara McKenzie, Tricia (Matt Woods) Hicks, Nicole Hicks, David Hicks, Stephen Hicks, Shawnda (Adam) Stephenson, Mark (Pam) Hicks, Deana Hicks; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Arthur and Taylor Sagraves, Kovyn Stephenson, and Dakota Wagoner; four sisters, Fern Little, Kathleen (Claude) Mounts, Helen (Jack) Little, Barbara (Walter) Ponevacs, three brothers, Earnest (Judith) Ison, Kenneth (Edna) Ison, and James (Roberta) Ison. In addition to these Mrs. Hicks is also survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews, and relatives who sadly mourn her passing.

Services were conducted August 13, at the Sparks Funeral Home by Bro. David Boggs.

Burial followed in the East  Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.

Jenny Jo Tackett Patton

1933 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Jenny Jo Tackett Patton, 76, of Olive Hill, Ky,  passed away August 10, at the Elliott Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook, Ky.

Mrs. Patton was born September 15, 1933, in Carter County, Ky, a daughter of the late Arthur and Kathleen DeHart Tackett.

Jenny Jo was a member of the Olive Hill United Methodist Church. She graduated as Valedictorian from Erie Methodist School and graduated from Morehead State College. Mrs. Patton was retired from the Carter County Board of Education where she taught at Olive Hill High School and West Carter High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-two years, Roger D. Patton; and two brothers, Henry Lee Tackett and James William “Jim Bill” Tackett.

She is survived by her son, Roger Michael Patton of Olive Hill, Ky, a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Michael and Verna Tackett of Olive Hill, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Myra Mae and Jim “Tater” Nolan of Olive Hill, and Mary Frances and Fred Lewis of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Tackett of Somerset, Ky, and Donna Jean Tackett of Lakeland, Florida. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Graveside services were held at  August 13, at the Olive Hill Memorial Park in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Richard Allen Short officiating.

Tony Tackett, Jack Lowe, Mark Duncan, Justin Dixon, Lonnie Patton, and Marty Church served as pallbearers. Willie D. Patton, Stan Tackett, Chris Tackett, and Sonny Lewis served as honorary pallbearers. Special music was provided by Jane Sparks Tatum.

Kelita Nicole Hicks

1989 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Kelita Nicole Hicks, 20, of Olive Hill, passed away August 14, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

She was born Nov.  18, 1989, in Montgomery County, Ky,  a daughter of John and Janice Abney Hicks of Olive Hill.

Kelita was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Troy and Maudie Shepherd Abney.

Besides her parents she is survived by one brother, Jeremy Clayton of Mt. Sterling, Ky, one sister, Stephanie Campbell of Olive Hill, and her paternal grandparents, Alfred and Mary Shrum Hicks of Olive Hill, Ky.   She also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held  August 17, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Darrell Miller, Roger McGuire, and Steven McGuire officiating.

Burial followed in the Hicks Family Cemetery on Garvin Ridge in Olive Hill, Ky.

Dustin Abney, Travis Abney, Thomas Smith, John Burton, Jimmy Hicks, and Ron Blevins   served as pallbearers. Jeremy Clayton, Farris Viars, Scott Hicks, Davey Hicks, and Steven Hicks served as honorary pallbearers.

Wanda Lee Gee Lucas

1936 – 2010

RUSH – Wanda Lee Gee Lucas 74, of Rush, Ky. went to be with her Lord  August 14, at her home, surrounded by her children and family at Rush Ky.

She was born Feb, 19, 1936, the daughter of the late Aronld Gee and Bessie Jenkins. Preceding her in death by her husband Cecil “Shorty” Lucas, also a son Larry Franklin Lucas, a sister Evelyn Jenkins and brother Jessie Lewis Gee.

She was survived by two sons Curtis E. Lucas and Scott A. and wife Renay Lucas of Rush; a daughter Vickie S. Salyers of Rush; seven grandchildren Christy Lucas and David Bowling of Johnson Co. Ky.; Zachary Salyers, Tyler Church both of Rush, April Koepf of Ashland,  JR. Howell of California; Larry D. Lucas of Colorado; seven great grandchildren, Jose Cuchillo Lucas, Carlos Gullett Lucas, Kira Bowling, Breonna Bowling all of Johnson Co., Ashley Lucas, David Koepf, Tiffiany Kiwabonga of Ashland, a very special niece Fannie Peterman of Rush and a son-in-law Gene Salyers of Rush, Ky. three bothers David Lee of Westwood, Bert Davis of Grayson, Ky. Robert “Bob” Jenkins of Ashland, Ky, also extended family in Mansfield, Ohio.

At Wanda’s Request there was no visitation. Graveside services for family and friends was at the Lucas Cemetery at Williams Creek on August 16.

 Malone Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

The Family has requested that in lieu of flowers make donations in her memory to Community Hospice 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, 1101.

Evelyn Louise Jackson Harris   

1933 – 2010

OLIVE HILL –  Evelyn Louise Jackson Harris, 76, of Olive Hill,  died August 14, at her home.

Evelyn was born August 26, 1933 in Grayson, Ky, daughter of the late Hardin Calhoun Jackson and Elizabeth Blanche Bradford Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Sheldon Harris, her parents, and a brother Hugh D. Jackson. She is survived by four daughters, Callie Ann Baker (Gary)of Olive Hill, Connie Elizabeth Baker (Randy) of Olive Hill, Cathie Madge Harris of Danville, Ky, Cindie Lou Harris of Olive Hill, and one son, Thomas Leslie Harris of Olive Hill; six grandchildren, Sherry Marie Baker LaMar (Scott) of Lewisport, Ky, Phillip Bradford Baker (Stephanie) of Olive Hill, Laura Beth Allen of Lexington, Ky, Rebecca Louise Baker of Morehead, Veronica Sheldon Yaeckel and Samantha Hardin Yaeckel of Olive Hill; five great grandchildren Nathan Bradford LaMar, Natalie Ann LaMar, Kathryn Elizabeth Allen, Nicholas Justice Allen II, and Evelyn “Lucy” Gordon; one sister, Lois Ann Phillips (Herman) of Grove City, Ohio, and a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

Evelyn attended Prichard High School, graduating in 1951 as valedictorian. She was a Mother, homemaker, member of the (W.M.U.) Women’s Missionary Union, and an active member of First Baptist Church, in Olive Hill.

Funeral Services were conducted August, 17, at Sparks Funeral Home by Joed Rice, minister.

Burial was in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.

Virginia Lee “Jenny” Rose

1927 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Virginia Lee “Jenny” Rose, 82, of Olive Hill,  passed away August 15, at her residence in Olive Hill.

Ms. Rose was born, October 4, 1927, in Olive Hill, a daughter of the late John Ephraim Rose and Lalie Lancaster Rose.

She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur “Red” Rose, Robert Vernon Rose, Ivan Rose, and three infant brothers; and four sisters, Olive Rose Fultz, Betty Rose Greenhill, Bertha Rose Fultz, and one infant sister.

Jenny was a lifetime member of the Olive Hill United Methodist Church, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club. She was a retired postal clerk from the Olive Hill Post Office. Jenny was an avid sports fan and supported the Olive Hill and West Carter Comets, the UK Wildcats, and the Cincinnati Reds.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Lou Browning of Olive Hill, one special niece, Rose Desiree’ Kiser and husband Phillip C. Kiser of Charleston, W.va one special great nephew, John Thomas Kiser of Charleston, West Virginia; two special great nieces, Erin Lee Sayre and husband Nathan Sayre of Kenova, West Virginia, and Jessica Marie Kiser of Charleston, West Virginia; one sister-in-law, Margaret “Bobbie” Rose of High Point, North Carolina; and many other loving nieces and nephews. She also leaves her church family and many friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.  August 18, at the Olive Hill United Methodist Church with Brother Bob Burton officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky.

Phillip Kiser, John Kiser, Nathan Sayre, Christopher Binion, Hal Bledsoe, and Bill Callihan will serve as pallbearers. Ed Mundy will serve as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Olive Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund.

 Ray Cooper

 1940 – 2010

MOREHEAD – Ray Cooper, 70, of Morehead, formerly of Carter County, passed away  August 15, in the Life Care Center in Morehead.

He was born July 3, 1940 in Carter County, a son of the late Albert and Ella Parsons Cooper.

He is survived by a sister, Betty McKinney of Franklin, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted August 17, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, with Bud Burnett and Bill Burnett, officiating.

Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Grayson.

Larry Keith Stevens

1952 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Larry Keith Stevens, 58, of Olive Hill,  passed away August 15, at his residence.

Keith was born July 12, 1952, a son of Kenny Stevens of Olive Hill, Ky, and the late Berleda Leadingham Stevens.

Mr. Stevens was retired from Ashland Coal where he worked as a supervisor in Safety and Security. He was of the Regular Baptist Faith and served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629, 32nd Degree Mason, El Hasa Shrine, Scottish Rite, and American Legion Post #138.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sheila Bocook Stevens; a son, Zach Stevens and wife, Tabitha; a step-daughter, Tina Scaggs and husband, Lee; one brother, Jerry Stevens and wife, Trish; three grandchildren, Michael Scaggs, Eric Scaggs, and Anthony Scaggs; and a special nephew, Tyler Stevens, all of Olive Hill, Ky. He also leaves behind a special dog, Mo, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. August 18, at the Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, with Brother Shawn Douglas officiating.

Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park in Olive Hill, Ky.

Friends may call until the service hour Wednesday at the Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, Ky.

Masonic rites were conducted August 17, by the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138.

Donnie Cox, George Kiser, Kavon Bocook, David Knipp, Clifford Roe, and Jerry Beatty will serve as pallbearers. Tyler Stevens, Lee Scaggs, Matt Layne, Greg Bocook, Michael Scaggs, Daniel Williams, Chris Bocook, and Michael Douglas will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Kathryn Lynn

 McCullough

1954 – 2010

CORBIN, KY –  Kathryn Lynn McCullough, 56, of Corbin, Ky., formerly of Ashland, died  Aug. 14, in Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Ky., after a sudden illness.

She was born Jan. 10, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio, to Dorothy Ree Phillips and the late George Ronald Phillips. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert McCullough III; three daughters, Heather Renee Dove, Tiffany Michelle Dove and Sara Louise McCullough; five grandchildren, Dru Nicole Ross, Marly Jai Phillips, Travis Riley Hamm, Preston Noelle Terry and Brandon Connor Terry; four sisters, Dottie Phillips, Linda Kazee, Donna Emery and Debra (Mel) Comer; and a brother, Michael (Gaylynn) Phillips.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Jean Phillips.

Funeral services were conducted August, 17, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland, by the Rev. Garrett Bugg.

Virginia Davis Carroll

1928 – 2010

HITCHINS – Virginia Davis Carroll 82, of Hitchins, went to be with the Lord on  August 16, at her residence.  

She was born May 2, 1928 in Rush,a daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle McWhorter Davis. She was a homemaker.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Carroll Sr., one daughter Daisy Sagraves, one granddaughter Amy Sammons, two sisters Hazel Lucas and Lois Adkins and one brother Norman Davis.  Her survivors include two sons Lawrence “Jr.” and wife Judy Carroll and Mark and wife Tina Carroll both Hitchins, Ky, three daughters Reba and husband Larry Campbell of Hitchins, Arlene Dravenstott of Grayson and Gloria and Larry Jarrell of Georgetown, Ky, two sisters Margie Carroll of Rush and Linda Jones of Ashland; one brother Harvey Davis of Rush Ky, 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted August 19, at 1 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Clell Lucas, minister.  

Burial will be in the Davis Family Cemetery in Rush.   

Friends may call Wed. from 6-9 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.
