Raiders slam Elliott and Morgan

The Raiders moved up to 12-3 on their season with two wins last week. Last Tuesday, East took down Elliott at home, 69-57.

Colt Barnhill and Connor Robinson led the team in scoring, but it seemed like every Raider wanted a piece of the action. Tyler Clay, Dylan Genung, Caleb Adams, Kyle Bair and Koty Buck also put points on the board in a game that moved almost too fast to see.

“It was a good game for us,” Coach Brandon Baker said. “Everyone was very productive with their time on the court.”

East’s boys succeeded in limiting touches for Elliott County standout Timmy Knipp.

“We tried to make it tough for him to get to the basket,” Baker said. “He is a talented player so we tried to make him use a lot of energy and work to our advantage.”

Both teams showed off their offensive skill with seamless passing in the high-pressure situation. East proved to have better shooting on the night.

East traveled to Morgan County on Friday for a 73-53 victory. The Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

“It went back to offensive execution,” Baker said. “Any time the ball goes in it gives you good defensive energy. I thought we did a good job dictating the game.”

East played host to Fleming County Tuesday (after press time). The 7-4 Panthers came in on a three-game winning streak.

“It will be a very tough game for us,” Baker said in a pre-game interview. “They have a lot of experience, a lot of seniors. They are fast and physical. We will have to play one of our best games of the season to have a chance to win.”

East heads to West Carter Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. match up, and Baker is looking for another tough game.

“West has a lot of games under their belts,” Baker said. “They play some young players, but they have a lot of potential. They are a dangerous team. Just like any other team in the region, if you don’t play well you aren’t going to win.”
