Lady Raiders hold tight to top spot

The Lady Raiders are holding strong to the Region’s top seat with a 14-3 season and two big wins over the weekend. On Saturday, East took down Fleming’s Lady Panthers on the road, 42-35.

“It was a very physical game,” Coach Hager Easterling said. “Fleming is a much better team at home than they are on the road and I thought our kids handled the physical play very well.”

Lakota Burge led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 14 points. Jessica Marshall put up nine and Kristin Easterling sank seven. Courtney Sparks and Sara Parsons had four each. Emily Slone nailed one from the perimeter and Jade Stumbo had one from the charity stripe.

The Lady Raiders took their Friday night momentum into Saturday’s match up with Morgan County. East’s gals took their second victory in as many days with a 53-29 win over Morgan County.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to an early lead and put the pressure on Morgan with a 10-0 lead. East stayed up by 10-12 points throughout the game, breaking open in the fourth for the win.

“I am really impressed with the turn around from Friday’s win to Saturday’s,” Easterling said. “Even with the long road trips we still played with intensity.”

Jessica Marshall led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 16 points. Kristin Easterling put up 11 and Lakota Burge sank seven. Sara Parsons had six and Taylor Wilson put up five. Lexie Cline and Kelsey Stumbo had two each.

Overall, East’s gals nailed 44-percent from the field and went 14-for-20 at the charity stripe. They hit 28-percent from the perimeter.

East was slated to head to Bath County on Thursday, but the game will have to be rescheduled because of the All A Classic play this week. At press time, the Lady Raiders’ next match up will be with cross-county rival West Carter at home Saturday. To add to the rivalry, the district seeding is on the line.

“Any time you play a rival there is a high intensity game,” Easterling said. “There will be a lot of emotions on the court. We just have to settle down and play.”
