Raiders slam Russell and Boyd

The Raiders stand at 10-3 on the season and are edging their way up the regional ladder. The climb got a little easier last week with wins over Russell and Boyd County.

On Wednesday, East took down the Red Devils at home, 55-46.

Russell grabbed an early 18-9 lead in the first quarter but East quickly pushed a nine-point run to tie things up in the second. The Red Devils were back on top 24-20 at the half but East forced a turnover to open the third and jumped up to a six-point lead. A 13-3 run in the fourth clinched the win for the Raiders.

Colt Barnhill led East in scoring with 16 points and Caleb Adam put up 11. Tyler Clay sank eight and Kyle Bair had four.

The Raiders hit the road Saturday for a 64-35 victory over Boyd County.

East’s boys came out strong, grabbing a 40-14 lead at the half. The Raiders nailed 60-percent from the field Barnhill once again led East in scoring with 17 points and Koty Buck sank 12. Nine Raiders put points on the board, showing off East’s bench depth.

East Carter faced off with 62nd District rival Elliott County at home on Tuesday (after press time). The Raiders took down the Lions in their season opener Dec. 3, 74-73.

The Raiders will travel to Morgan County on Saturday for a girl/boy doubleheader. The Cougars are currently 2-7 on their season.
