East gals holding strong to regional top spot

The Lady Raiders weren’t ready to let a little snow stop them last week. East’s gals nabbed a win from Boyd on the road Saturday, 47-41.

“It was kind of a lethargic game,” Coach Hager Easterling said. “We played well defensively in the first half, but not in the second.”

The Lady Raiders were up 20-9 at the half, but the Lady Lions weren’t laying down, putting up 32 points to East’s 27 in the second half.

“Maybe it was because we were out of school or because it was an afternoon game,” Easterling said. “But we have to be able to adjust to whatever time we play. It is part of the process and something we have to get better at.”

The Lady Raiders returned to their home court Monday and took down Elliott County 61-37. East’s gals were back on their game and sang through their defensive game.

“Elliott made some shots, but for the most part they were tough ones with a hand in their face,” Easterling said. “We did a much better job defensively.”

East hits the road again this weekend. The Lady Raiders are slated to play host to Fleming County on Friday. Although Fleming is 6-8 on the season, they are 4-1 at home.

“They play much better at home than they do on the road,” Easterling said. “It’s an EKC conference game and a regional game. They will be excited about playing and we will have to meet their energy down there.”

On Saturday, East will travel to Morgan County for the second match up of the season with the Lady Cougars. East took Morgan at home Dec. 14, 52-30. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

“They will be wanting some payback,” Easterling said. “We will have to be ready to play and go down there and get after them.”
