Lusby love for Lady Knights

Feb. 1, 2012 —     The Lusby Center has definitely been friendly confines for the KCU womens basketball team. The Lady Knights have made themselves at home in any venue this season with a 20-1 start to things.

During Friday night’s homecoming match-up, KCU got 20 points, five assists and four steals from Tanya Bowens, on the way to a 92-41 shellacking of Johnson University.

KCU out rebounded the Lady Jags 44-28 while forcing 27 turnovers. The Lady Knights were clicking on all cylinders shooting 53 percent from the field while outscoring the Johnson bench, 45-2. The Lady Knight defense held Johnson to an ice cold 22 percent shooting from the field in the first half on the way to the win.

Tara Weddle added 11 points to the KCU effort, Danielle Sorber had 10 points and four steals, Monica Stevens chipped in nine points and Courtney Green had 6 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Knights suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday at Midway College. KCU took a 37-34 lead into the half but could hold on as they fell for the first time this season, 74-72. The KCU women fell prey to a Midway team that burned the nets with nearly 60 percent shooting from the three-point line compared to KCU’s 27 percent from long range.

Bowens is leading the Lady Knights in scoring this season with 15.6 points a contest followed by 11.4 from Autumn Carter and 10.8 points a game from Weddle.

The KCU women began a five game home stand last night (after press time) taking on Indiana University Southeast. KCU will return to action on Friday tip off at 7:30 p.m. against Asbury University in Grayson.
