The KCU mens basketball team didn’t disappoint a nearly packed Lusby Center on homecoming Friday night, caging the Jaguars of Johnson University, 80-47.
West Carter graduate Ace Puckett found himself surrounded in the paint by Jags, but banked it in to put the Knights on the board first in a sloppy start to the first half. KCU would soon get grounded to go on a 12-0 run in the next ten minutes capped off by a basket by Jared Ravenscraft.
“Coach (Reed) called a timeout and sat us down and settled us down,” Ravenscraft said. “I guess we came out too hyped and he settled us down and out of the time out we just came out and started executing and starting clicking.”
The guys from Grayson were not finished as the lead ballooned out to 20-6 before Johnson put up another point.
“It was the way we were playing defense,” said KCU bench boss Ron Reed of the Knights first-half run. “We put a lot of pressure on them and forced them into bad shots. The first-half they only had a couple of offensive rebounds and anytime you do that you’re going to give yourself a chance to get some easy baskets.”
KCU out rebounded the Jags 60-28 in the contest.
Three of freshman Wade Skaggs’ 13 first-half points came on a three at the buzzer that put the Knights up 39-19 at intermission.
“It was a great win to come out here on homecoming and play as a team and get the ‘W',” Skaggs said. “We just have to come out and get that type of effort, no matter how much we’re up or down we’ve just got to keep pushing to get better so we don’t learn bad habits.”
The KCU men would never look back in the second half, leading by as many as 31 after Skaggs dished to Puckett with 6:40 to go in the second half.
Skaggs led four Knights in double figures with 18 points and eight rebounds. Ravenscraft chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds, Puckett had 13 points and nine rebounds. Clay McKenzie notched 11 points and 10 boards for a double-double on the night.
KCU got 31 points and 13 rebounds from Blandon Clemons on Saturday afternoon but went onto fall to Crown College, 86-75.
The two-game split puts the KCU men at 4-1 on in regional play and 7-13 on the season. The Knights took on Ohio University-Chillicothe last night (after press time) and return to action on Saturday against Freewill Baptist Bible College. The tip off is set for 3 p.m. in Grayson.

Dailey was a staple in the Knights offense, as he became the go to receiver for quarterback Graham Johnston.

Lusby love for Lady Knights
The Lusby Center has definitely been friendly confines for the KCU womens basketball team. The Lady Knights have made themselves at home in any venue this season with a 20-1 start to things.

The Kentucky Christian University Football faithful had to forgive a couple of senior players, defensive end Clyde Manuel, and quarterback Beau Dailey, when they came into the banquet on Sunday afternoon looking a little tired.
