Oct. 31, 2012 — With the loss to Ohio Christian University in the Mid-East Region Championship the Kentucky Christian University volleyball team had to depend on their body of work through the entire season to earn them an at-large bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.
The Lady Knights received an at-large bid to the NCCAA National Tournament. The announcement was made during a conference call Sunday night.
The NCCAA National Tournament consists of the eight regional tournament winners and two at-large bids. Typically one of the at-large bid automatically goes to the host school, this year’s host school Florida Christian College, respectfully declined the automatic bid leaving two open spot to fill the final two spots in the 10 team tournament.
KCU had the second highest Burbridge rating in the nation, second only to the #1 seed in the tournament, Clearwater Christian College. Burbridge is the rating system that ranks your strength of schedule for a season, much like RPI for basketball. Kentucky Christian also brought the second best record at 22-4, including a 21 game winning streak, again just behind Clearwater Christian.
The committee members determined that KCU’s resume and work throughout the season had earned them an at-large bid and the Lady Knights will be traveling to Florida with the women’s soccer team next week for Nationals.
The following are the rankings for the tournament:
