Knights end 2011 with thriller

Nov. 23, 2011 —     Kentucky Christian University football wrapped up the 2011 season last Saturday with a 31-28 win over the University of Pikeville (4-6). Freshman kicker Jared Cobb hit a 20-yard filed goal as time expired to steal a win from the Bears.

With the win, the Knights wrapped up their first year under Head Coach Mike Furrey with a final mark of 4-7.

Kentucky Christian trailed UPIKE midway through the final quarter. Freshman quarterback Graham Johnston led his team on a rally that would put Cobb in position to play the role of hero.

Trailing 28-17, Johnston moved the Knights into field goal range. Cobb added three to make it 28-20.

With less than two minutes to play, Johnston hit senior receiver Beau Dailey for a late score.

Johnston hooked up with Dailey again on the two-point conversion, tying the game.

KCU freshman corner Greg Pollard pick the ball for the Knights on the ensuing possession, giving Johnston one last opportunity. Johnston hit Dailey again to move KCU deep into the redzone. Cobb added a field goal as time expired, stealing a win for Kentucky Christian.

Johnston finished the game with nearly 250 yards passing and a touchdown. He also ran for more than 200 yards and two more scores.
