KCU men’s hoops picks up new recruit

June 20, 2012 — The KCU men’s basketball program has signed a new player to the 2012-13 squad.

Knights Head Coach Ron Reed and his staff traveled to Betsy Layne High School so that Andrew Roberts could put the pen to paper and wear KCU red and black this fall.

After following the recent Betsy Layne graduate closely throughout the season, Roberts made it official to suit up for coach Reed and the Knights next season.

A forward who averaged 13 points and 8.2 rebounds a game, Roberts helped guide Betsy Layne to two regional and two conference championships, along with an All “A” state championship. Roberts, who came to be known as a jack-of-all trades in the sporting realm, has received praise for his hard work on the football field, the basketball court and most importantly for his work in the classroom.

Nabbing a dynamic and all-around solid player, Reed said what caught his eye with Roberts was his willingness to leave nothing on the court.

“Andrew brings a toughness, a work ethic, and a winning attitude that will fit in great at Kentucky Christian,” Reed said. “He has a lot of potential to be a big contributor to this team, and I will be excited to see him in action wearing black and red for us next season.”
