The Lady Knights returned from Knoxville victorious this weekend, claiming the 2011 Mid-East Regional Tournament Championship. The Lady Knights handled the entire tournament in straight sets.
The tournament moved the ladies’ season record to 27-8.
Kentucky Christian University earned a number-one seed in the tournament due to an undefeated regular season Mid-East record.
KCU breezed through Friday’s round-robin portion of the tournament, defeating Appalachian Bible College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-15) and Crown College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17).
KCU opened Saturday against Ohio Christian University. OCU couldn’t slow the ladies. KCU dispatched Ohio Christian, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) to move on to the tournament final.
KCU met tournament host and defending champion Johnson University in the championship match.
The Lady Knights kept rolling, beating Johnson University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) for the Mid-East title.
Freshmen Lauren Dunn, Megan Daniel, Jessi Hartzler were named All-Region honorable mention.
Senior Ally Hall was named first-team All-Region and senior April Hershauer was named regional MVP.
KCU will move on the take part in the national tournament held in Florida.
