May 20, 2009 — Enjoy Grayson Memory Days
Editor,
To all the wonderful people of Carter County that have enjoyed our countries freedoms and personal liberties, like the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, and the right to petition.
On May 23, 1 p.m., Grayson will be hosting their Memory Days parade. This is a great opportunity for all of us to come together as Americans and celebrate the freedoms that our forefather have fought and died for. The theme for the parade is Hometown Roots, Strong and Growing. There will be a float in the parade that will be representing all the things that have made America the strong nation that it is today. I am inviting all the churches, the soldiers, the teachers, the bus drivers, the clubs, the blue collar workers, the farmers, the members of the NRA, and all the citizens that wish to come together and show their patriotism for small town America. I know that we are all very busy, but I think that there are times that we need to be a part of something bigger then ourselves. This is one of those times. This is not a protest of any kind, just a way to come together and show our pride for our community and our country.
It is also a great opportunity to spend a little time with your family and friends and support our local businesses. You don't need to do anything but show up and walk behind the float. The parade will be on Main Street traveling west to east. Join in at any time. Wear you patriotic tee shirts, church shirts, club logo, uniforms or whatever, and bring an American flag to wave. I will have some flags to pass out to the crowds. Hopefully, the crowd will be behind the float, uniting together as Americans. I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of you that are willing to come together and show your support for your hometown and our country.
If there was ever a time that we need to come together as patriotic Americans, it is now. United we stand, Divided we fall. Thanking you in advance for your support.

ECMS needs more
understanding
Editor,
On a very busy Friday afternoon, I had some very important business to take care of and I was instructed by his mother to stop by E.C.M.S. to pick up my grandson for a haircut before the barbershop closed. Since all of Carter County needs to know my personal business, I have decided to put this in the paper.
I think I’m plenty old enough to understand the laws and regulations of school policy’s – but this wasn’t the proper way to act especially after being notified two hours before I arrived. By the time I got through the traffic on Carol Malone and finished my errands, it was about 2:55 p.m. I was thinking I could pick him up and get out of there before the buses all gathered in.
When I arrived, the child was nowhere around and they were notified the child was on a pick-up list. All of a sudden, the principal came strutting toward me – looks in my car, and tells me – “I’m in the wrong line.” Or was I at the wrong school? Or did she not get the message that he was on the pick up list? If the school would have done it’s job to begin with, then nothing would have been wrong.
She acted as though I was so Out-of-place. I’m speaking of children here from grades 5 through 8. That’s surely old enough to watch traffic since you can see them playing in the streets. If this is school policy, them Heritage Elementary sure needs a lot of up grading. Why not put our tax money to work and hire a school official so these “little” kids can be more secure. Any way, now I know why more young boys wear long hair. From August to last May, I can plainly understand, it is much more important to keep our students in school and when they get head lice, we’ll send them home. Any way, the principal and two buses did a great job, the barbershop was closed, and we’ll go get him a perm when school is over.
Grandparent,
Ruth Ison

Thanks for help
after accident
Editor,
I would like to say thanks to all those who helped. Thanks for being there when I had my accident on 5/12/09 and helping my family and me in our time of need. A very special thanks to Carol Fraley for calling my mom and staying with me until everything was done. Thanks to all the EMT (Ronnie Wallace) and Grayson Fire and the others I may not know about. I am in all your debt.
Sincerely,
James M. L. Seaton, 1

International Edsel Club to meet
Editor,
On Friday & Saturday, May 22 & 23, the Southeastern Chapter of the International Edsel Club will be having their Spring meet in Grayson KY. There will be 25 - 30 people and 10 - 15 Edsels in attendance.
You may be too young to remember, but the Edsel was introduced by Ford Motor Co. in 1957. It was an ambitious gamble by a young Henry Ford II to gain a bigger slice of the medium price market - primarily intended to compete with Buick. However, from the start, the car encountered a multitude of problems from poor timing of the introduction to a poor product itself. As a result the car was a royal flop and a source of embarrassment to Ford Motor Co. for years to come. The company lost about $300 million (in 1957 dollars) before the plug was mercifully pulled after 3 short model years of production.
In 1969, a few hardy souls took it upon themselves to remember what Ford would like to forget. Thus, the International Edsel Club and also the Edsel Owners Clubs were formed. Today both clubs count about 500 members. The cars have went in value from nothing (many of the earlier members had cars that were given to them) to an ultra rare 60 convertible (there were only 76 of them built) recently selling for a reported $200,000.
I was hoping you might see fit to cover our meet. This meet will also be in conjunction with Grayson's "Memory Days" so there should be plenty of opportunity for you to garner a story. I will be more than happy to assist you in any and every way possible.
Sincerely
Charles Kiser, Jr

Questions about Hitchins school
I am a member of the Hitchins Preservation Society and have worked various events to raise money to renovate the Hitchins High School buildings. I was shocked to read that Mr. Isaacs had given the school to the Christian school group. It had been my understanding that he had given it to the HPS several years ago.

Provide more for kids in need of wholesome activity
What prompted this letter was when a young boy said to me, “No wonder kids get on drugs around here, it’s so boring-nothing to do.”
