Relay for Life

The Carter County Sheriff’s Department Relay for Life team would like to thank everyone who helped to make our 8th annual Bluegrass show a great success once again. We raised over $2600 and had a wonderful time doing it.

First and foremost we want to thank our Heavenly Father God above for all his blessings on our team efforts, for without him we could do nothing. A huge thanks to all the team members, whether you worked, donated or both it takes everyone working to pull this together and come out successful.

We all want to thank the Rattlesnake Ridge Community Center and its members, along with the wonderful people from the ridge who have always worked so hard to see that we have everything we need to have our show every year.

A great big thank you goes out to Hannah Bradford, Zach Bentley, The Rowan County Rambles and Dusty Valley Grass who put on a terrific show and entertained us all evening. Gary Jones handled our auction once again and as usual he did a fantastic job! Thank you Gary for all your help. Thank you to our good buddy Glen Barker for selling tickets at the door. Glen does this for us every year and we love him for all his help. To all the ladies who worked so hard in the kitchen that night, we appreciate you more than you will ever know.

Now we want to make sure we thank everyone who donated baked goods or other items for our auction; food, pop, etc. for our refreshments that were sold, and the Community Center for the use of the building and products. If we missed your name or donation please forgive us, we tried very hard to keep track of everyone but we do make mistakes.

So a great big thank you to the following people: Rudy Fest Committee, Papa Johns, Giovannis, Field’s Florist, City Florist, Horton and Brown, Star Antiques, Carters Auto Parts, All American Graphics, Grayson Truck Accessories, Grayson Tires, Rosie’s, Pizza Hut, Sylvia Pennington, Joyce Parsons, Barbara Marshall, Glenna Marshall, Lida Gilbert, Mike Hutchinson, Terry Brammell, Janie Conley, Lisa Lucus, Gail Morrison, Dallard Berry, Sweet Sensations, Connie Hall, Brenda Hall, June Fultz, Myrtle Sammons, Curt Ferguson, Susie Harris, Marcella Manning, Missy Barker, Wayman and Lori Elliott, Howard Gilbert, Larry Carroll, and an anonymous person who donated several craft items. Another huge thanks to the team members who donated items and/or worked the show.

This event is the biggest fundraiser for our team and we just want to show our gratitude to each and everyone who helped make it the success it was. God bless you all, and remember until there’s a cure, we keep on relaying! We are the Carter County Bounty Hunters and we’re hunting for a cure!

Thanks,

Carter County Bounty Hunters members

Memorial Day

Memorial Day was first observed,May 30,1868. Confederate womens' groups were clearing off and decorating with flowers the graves of Civil War soldiers and this day was to commemorate the sacrifices of their service. Soon all United States men and women who died in all wars were included.

Then Congress passed the Federal Law of Memorial Day,1971 as the last Monday, to ensure a three-day weekend. Even before then people were remembering and decorating graves of their  loved ones.

Even though Memorial Day is a tradition of man, there is mentioned in the Bible by JESUS about a woman that anointed HIM for his burial and that it be spoken of her for a memorial of her.  St. Mark 14: 6 - 9.

People tend to forget Calvary, while it is the Memorial Day for Christians.

Thanks for voting

I would like to take this time to personally thank everyone who voted against the current jailer in the Primary Election.

In my personal opinion, people in Carter County are fed up with all the misconduct in the jail. When there were fights down there, the video cameras were always broken. Maybe the new jailer will fix them. (Ha Ha)

The Democrat and Republican voters in Carter County Tuesday sent a message. Every member of the fiscal court lost re-election. I think it was due to the jail, they did nothing of the pending charges on the deputy jailer and did not act on the complaints.

I think the current county attorney should be voted out too this November. He was right there and did nothing about the complaints of sex abuse. There were three deputies indicted. He never even prosecuted them.

I pray that no one else gets beat to death or seriously injured at the Carter County Detention Center between now and when the new jailer takes office. I personally think the jailer should go ahead and resign from office. He was never there anyway in the past.

I also believe the fiscal court members should go ahead and resign. From now until the first of the year, the county will be served by a lame duck fiscal court.

(Note: A lame duck is an elected official who is approaching the end of his or her tenure, and especially an official whose successor has already been elected.)

We’ve all got choices to vote against corruption. Remember folks, we still have some to get rid of in the November election. Let's show them the exit and that we are fed up.

And, do not forget the City of Grayson election this fall. We cannot forgive what the mayor and council has done to this city. If you work in town you pay a tax. But, they want money on top of money. We do not need a new police station. We need to pass an ordinance for the police officers to live within the city limits. We need to pass ordinances that the police officers should take drug tests.

Remember, it's the people's choice. We all need to vote this November election. Let's vote all the incumbents out.

  • Questions about Hitchins school

I am a member of the Hitchins Preservation Society and have worked various events to raise money to renovate the Hitchins High School buildings. I was shocked to read that Mr. Isaacs had given the school to the Christian school group. It had been my understanding that he had given it to the HPS several years ago.
