The editor:
This year the West Carter High School Community Problem Solving Team is trying to tackle the task of raising reading test scores in the western end of Carter County.
We have paired with the Olive Hill branch of the Carter County Public Library, in order to try and use every possible resource in our movement to get elementary students reading. We believe that children truly are the future. But we also know that if they can’t read, they can’t lead.
The old saying “It takes a village to raise a child” has become more than a saying for our team. We are encouraging the citizens of Olive Hill to take part in our project. Volunteer your time to read at a local elementary school.
Let’s stand together and be the village that it takes to raise our children to be readers. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact us at West Carter High School. 606-286-8100.

Wet-dry vote will affect entire county
Most of us are acquainted with the phrase "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." That must be the mindset of the powers that be who made the rule that only the Grayson precincts get to vote on the upcoming issue of 'wet or dry'.

Phone bill has too many add-ons
Just paid my phone bill. It started at $184.92. Quickly to that amount another 12 suckers were attached to the bill totaling $64.25 in extra charges. Hold your laughter until the end.

Thoughts on future of CCDC
