The editor:
I am a former student of Olive Hill Elementary school as an eighth grade student in the early 1970’s. While at this school I was fortunate enough to be nominated as one of their cheerleaders. My best cheerleading friend was named Peggy.
A local photographer came by and took photographs of each of us cheerleaders individually. I would like to get copies of the pictures. It would also allow me to get in touch with Peggy and any other former students like basketball star Tommy Thompson who might still be in Olive Hill or in Kentucky.
I was only at the school for about a year. While at that school, my name was Cindy Ferles. My mother was married to John Ferles, my stepfather. I mention this because John’s family was related to Daniel Boone. His family also owned 500 acres off of Boone Hollow but I’m not sure if that is the correct name.
The hollow we lived in was occupied by the local sheriff. His place was just down the road and our horses managed to get loose and enjoy his strawberry fields.
I also remember a cute, red-haired boy named Clay who had lots of freckles.
The neighbor to our south was named Sophie, but everyone called her Goldie because she used to have hair that looked like spun gold. She used to always win the blue ribbon at the county fairs for her prize pigs.
As for my friend Peggy, her father owned a ranch and supposedly the boundaries of the ranch met at four county lines. Under that particular area were caves but we were not allowed in the caves but often wondered if they held secrets of the past.
If anyone knows of any of these people, please ask them to contact me. I also remember a girl named Sam. Her father and John Ferles were cousins. Sam also was musically gifted. She could play a musical score on the piano by just hearing it.
I would very much like to find any of these people and get copies of the photographs from school.
