July 14, 2010 — Olive Hill Homecoming

Editor,

As the city of Olive Hill had endured a tremendous setback in the last two months, the July 4th Homecoming Celebration looked bleak in the early stages, but “Hope” never left the citizens of Olive Hill, as evidenced by the large number who were in town for the annual July Homecoming Celebration.

Mark Porter, President of the Olive Hill Chamber of Commerce would like to thank John and Clarice Steagall and their crew in organizing the July 3rd parade and to all who participated in the parade,  the Olive Hill Main Street Committee for their contribution, also to the Kentucky Backroads band that kept us entertained both Saturday and Sunday evenings.  We also thank Randy and John Steagall for the superb fireworks display on Sunday night, and to Mayor Danny Sparks and the city employees for an outstanding job. Last, but not least to the citizens of Olive Hill and surrounding areas for their continued support of the July 4th festivities in Olive Hill, and to let everyone know those festivities were made possible by the Olive Hill Chamber of Commerce and the following contributors:

American Legion/Sons of American Legion/Legion Auxiliary, The Commercial Bank of Grayson, First National Bank of Grayson, Carter County Shrine Club, Medicine Cabinet Pharmacy, J.D. & Debbie Rayburn, Porter’s Monuments, Masonic Group-Widow Sons, Olive Hill Lodge #629, McDonald’s of Grayson, McDonald’s of Olive Hill, A & A Trucking, Olive Hill Trucking, Mike & Kristin Collins, Fisher’s Auto Sales, Richard Williams, Carter Family Pharmacy, Bond’s Towing, John’s Garage, Billy Duncan’s Body Shop, Hick’ Auto Parts, Holbrook Computer, Tackett’s Furniture, and Olive Hill Historical Society.

Thanks,

Mark Porter

  • Questions about Hitchins school

I am a member of the Hitchins Preservation Society and have worked various events to raise money to renovate the Hitchins High School buildings. I was shocked to read that Mr. Isaacs had given the school to the Christian school group. It had been my understanding that he had given it to the HPS several years ago.
