Sept. 23, 2009 — Unhappy with recent letters

In the past two weeks you have printed two different letters which have defamatory remarks regarding the Carter County justice system, and in particular, the judges. The first letter indicated that a former judge had resigned due to problems with drug use and the second letter indicated that the entire system, from the police to the judges, was ensconced with Ògreed and corruptionÓ. Please tell me at what point does your newspaper take responsibility for such libelous statements. At what point does your newspaper require facts before it prints such garbage as was in these letters?
As a person who is familiar, on a daily basis, with our justice system, let me give you some of those facts. We currently have two judges who serve us and who are from this county. I have never heard a hint of scandal about either one of them. This judicial district was fortunate to be among the first to implement a family court system, and to have appointed, and then elected, an outstanding judge to serve us--again from our own county. There was never a hint of scandal regarding her position. The reasons she chose to resign were made public by her in the pages of this newspaper and there is absolutely no reason to question them. She was, in fact, one of the finest judges I have ever appeared before.
We are lucky to have a family court system in our county, just ask any social worker, attorney, or child support specialist. To denigrate this system, and those who have worked tirelessly to make sure it works, is inappropriate. For the newspaper to print the unsupported allegations of those upset about the drug use of their fellow Carter Countians, and to allow them to place blame on public servants, is downright dangerous.

Olive Hill Heroes

I would like to take a few minutes of my time to send a compliment to a group of people I consider Olive Hill heroes. That is the group of people who are painting that beautiful wall you see as you travel through Olive Hill. I can only describe it as Beautiful, wonderful, and fantastic.
As an old retired Army Sergeant who has traveled this entire country and world, I can honestly say that with this wall as the most Beautiful display I have ever seen in any city.
I watched those people painting in the heat of the day, but they were concerned only with doing a beautiful job. At the end of this project, I hope Olive Hill will somehow honor each person who completed this fantastic beautiful project.
So, all you wonderful people, my hat goes off to you for making the most fantastic town in the world more fantastic and beautiful. I hope to see this beautiful wall on tv, on local and world news. Everybody in the world needs to see it. Again, thank you wonderful people for this fantastic project.

Thoughts on Hitchins High School
Thank you so much for publishing concerns of certain alumnus of the former Hitchins High School. As promised, attached are the minutes of the Nov. 5, 2011 Board of Directors meeting where the HPS Board authorized me to take the necessary action to deed the Hitchins Preservation Society (HPS) property to the Carter Christian Academy (CCA), together with the preliminary balance sheet for 2011.

Questions about Hitchins school
I am a member of the Hitchins Preservation Society and have worked various events to raise money to renovate the Hitchins High School buildings. I was shocked to read that Mr. Isaacs had given the school to the Christian school group. It had been my understanding that he had given it to the HPS several years ago.
