June 17, 2009 — A Carter County grand jury handed down three indictments June 12 in connection to charges of trafficking in controlled substances, wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Thomas Shoemaker, 800 block of Gooden Ridge in Olive Hill is facing three charges of first-degree wanton endangerment when he allegedly discharged a weapon March 27 causing bullets to go into three separate houses occupied by Edward Gooden, Joan Gooden and Rachel Lawhorn, creating a substantial danger of death or serious or physical injury to all three victims. The charges are all Class D felonies.
Also facing indictment is James A Prince, 400 block of Ison Road in Grayson, who is charged with first-degree trafficking March 26 in the controlled substance hydromorphone, first offense (Class C felony), one charge of third-degree trafficking in the controlled substance alprazolam (Class A misdemeanor), one charge of first-degree promoting contraband into the Carter county Detention Center (Class D felony) and one charge of possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
The final indictment handed down June 12 was against Carl Gillum, 200 block of Dawson Branch in Rush, who faces one charge of operating a motor vehicle March 12 under the influence of drugs or alcohol (Class D felony). This is Gillum’s third conviction in the past five years. He also is charged with one count of driving on a suspended license for DUI, with one prior conviction (Class A misdemeanor).
A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation of a crime and does not establish guilt.
