Tea Rally Saturday

By Nicole Back, staff writer

July 1, 2009 — Government spending is out of control, according to a local group of citizens. That is why the group has organized a Tea Party Rally for July 4.

“Unforeseen debt is sinking the United States of America, as we know it,” Minnie Womack, spokesperson, said.

Tea Party Rallies will be going on across Kentucky this Independence Day, with a statewide event being hosted at the State Capitol in Frankfort.

There will be music and speakers at Grayson’s event, along with an open-mike-type setting, in which citizens can voice their opinions.

The citizens who organized the rally also are concerned about what they see happening to the U.S. Constitution.

“They want to throw God out of everything,” Womack said. “There can be Islam but the Bible can’t be talked about in schools. They want to change marriage between a man and a woman.”

She said the group is not for same-sex marriage but does not harbor any hatred toward homosexuals.

“We’re against all of our elected officials that won’t stand up for our rights,” Womack said.

She invites anyone who wants to join in the rally to bring a lawnchair from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 4 to the Grayson City Park. For more information, call 474-6542.
