July 1, 2009 — A 41-year-old Carter County man sits behind bars on first-degree assault charges in connection to an incident Monday where a victim was found covered in blood in a grassy area of his home.
John P. Jackson was arrested in the early hours after a neighbor noticed Fred Malone lying in the yard of his Holcomb Street home.
According to police, Malone was struck several times on the head and sustained multiple stab wounds.
He was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital and reportedly is conscious while being cared for in the Intensive Care Unit.
Following an investigation, Jackson was arrested and charged with assault, which is a Class B felony and carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Jackson remains in the Carter County Detention Center on $100,000 full-cash bond. The case remains under investigation by Grayson Police Chief Ed Ginter, Sgt. Casey Brammell and Sgt. Travis Steele.
