Sept. 9, 2011 — A 70-year-old Carter County man was found dead Saturday morning after suffering injuries from a 4-wheeler accident in the Norton Branch area near the Carter-Boyd line.
Joseph H. Whitley had been squirrel hunting in the Johnson Hollow area on Friday when he didn’t return home. His wife reported him missing on Saturday morning about 7:30.
Several fire departments were called out to search for him. The body was found near Norton Branch in Boyd County about 9:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead by Boyd County Deputy Coroner Ralph Beadle.
An exact cause of death has not been released, but no foul play is suspected.
