Olive Hill brothers die in crash

By Tonia Rose, staff writer

Feb. 3, 2010 — Two Olive Hill brothers are dead following a one-vehicle crash Thursday in Paducah when the Dodge utility truck they were riding in hit a floodwall and then overturned several times.

Marcus Anthony “Big Red” McCleese, 39, and 28-year-old John Joseph Carlton “Big John” McCleese were traveling westbound on Lydon Road in McCracken County about 10 p.m. when the accident occurred.

According to McCraken County Sheriff Jon Hayden, the vehicle went airborne and then hit a floodwall twice just before crossing Husbands Road.

It then landed in a nearby field and overturned. Police said several road signs and one large tree were destroyed during the crash. Speed might have been a factor in the accident, the sheriff reported. The incident caused Husbands Road to be reduced to one lane for approximately three hours.

The brothers were employed by Welder Pipeliner Local 798 and were in Paducah on work duty.

The incident remains under investigation.

Funeral services for the brothers will be held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at the Olive Hill Historical Society Building in Olive Hill with Rev. Tim Wagoner officiating. Friends may call today until the hour of service.
