Sept. 2, 2009 — Indictments against 20 individuals were handed down by a Carter County grand jury on August 14.
• John P. Jackson, 41, of Kiser Rd., Grayson, was indicted on three felony counts, as a result of his attack on Fred Malone. He is charged with criminal attempt to murder by stabbing Malone with a knife with the intent to cause his death, a Class B felony. Jackson was also charged with first-degree assault for assaulting and cutting Malone with a knife, a Class B felony. He was also charged with first-degree robbery by robbing Fred Malone and using a dangerous weapon, a knife, a Class B felony.
• Kelly Jo Stutler, 35, of 1872 Co. Road 4, Pedro, Ohio was indicted on one count of theft by unlawful taking for taking $8,094 from Papa John’s Pizza Franchise Store, a Class D felony.
• Michael J. Napier, 23, of Rt. 1, Prichard, W. Va., was indicted on one count of first-degree sodomy by having deviate sexual intercourse with a child three years of age, a Class A felony.
• Andrew J. Porter, 24, of State Highway 986, Olive Hill, was indicted on one count of first-degree burglary when he burglarized the residence of Gary Carroll while armed with a rifle, a Class B felony.
• April Gonzales, 22, of Highway 207, Grayson and Justin Davis, 24, of Highway 207, Grayson, were indicted on one count of theft by unlawful taking, a Class D felony, when they took money and jewelry belonging to Jean Skaggs, valued over $500.
• Lisa Sexton, 44, of 205 Robert & Mary Ave., Grayson, and Gary Bowling, 45, of the same address, were indicted on five counts including: trafficking in a controlled substance near a school by unlawfully selling the controlled substance xanax within 1000 yards of a school building used primarily for classroom instructions, a Class D felony, possession of the Scheduled II controlled substance oxycodone, first degree, first offense, a Class D felony, possession of the scheduled III controlled substance hydrocodone, a Class A misd., possession of the controlled substance marijuana, a Class A misd., and possession of drug paraphernalia for having metal clips and straws, devices used for the purpose of ingesting controlled substance, a Class A misd.
• Forest Blevins, 19, of Rt. 124, Welston, Ohio, Emeral May, 35, of Long Run Road, Albaly, Ohio, and Nicholas A. May, 24, of St. Highway 3399, Louisa, were indicted two counts: third-degree burglary when they burglarized the store building belonging to Mike Johnston, a Class D felony, and criminal mischief in the first degree when they broke into the store building belonging to Mike Johnston and did over $1,000 damage to the building and property, a Class D felony.
• Kevin R. Douglas, 41, of Douglas Hollow, Olive Hill, was indicted on one count of third-degree burglary by burglarizing a building owned by Ronnie Douglas, a Class D felony.
• Joseph A. Williams, 21, of N. Hord Street, Grayson, was indicted on two counts including third-degree rape by having sexual intercourse with a female under 16, and one count of third-degree sodomy by engaging in deviate sexual intercourse with the person under 16, both counts are Class D felonies.
• Austin Burchett, 22, of Stan Branch, Grayson, was indicted on one count of first-degree robbery when he robbed the Subway Restaurant in Grayson, using a pistol, a Class B felony.
• Jessica Clare, 21, of Grayson, was indicted on four counts including: public intoxication by being intoxicated by drugs or alcohol in public, first-degree possession of the Scheduled II controlled substance oxycodone, first offense, a Class D felony, second-degree possession of the Scheduled III controlled substance hydrocodone, first offense, a Class A misd., third-degree possession of the Scheduled IV controlled substance alprazolam, first offense, a Class A misd.
• Christopher Carpenter, 20, was indicted on one count of first-degree assault when he assaulted Jackie James by cutting him with a knife, a Class B felony.
• Brandon Burnett, 25, of State Route Highway 9, Grayson, was indicted on one count of receiving stolen property when he received a 1996 GMC truck valued at more than $1,000 and knew it was stolen, a Class D felony.
• Michael R. Adams, Jr, 35, of Highway 1496, Grayson, was indicted on one count of first-degree possession of the Scheduled II controlled substance oxycodone, first offense, a Class D felony.
• William Berry, 20, of Rush was indicted on one count of first-degree possession of the controlled substance percocet, first offense, a Class D felony, and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense.
• Valerie Glore, 38, of St. Highway 7, Grayson, was indicted on one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, by possessing a forged check drawn on First National Bank, a Class D felony. In another indicted Glore was indicted on four more counts including: second-degree burglary when she burglarized the home of Donna Stevens, a Class C felony, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, by possessing a forged check in the amount of $45 drawn on First National Bank, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, by possessing a forged check in the amount of $20 drawn on First National Bank, and one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument, by possessing a forged check in the amount of $40 drawn on First National Bank. The last three counts are all Class D felonies.
An indictment does not prove guilty, only that sufficient evidence was presented to a grand jury to warrant a trial.
