Three nominated by JNC to fill vacant judgeship

Conn, Flatt and O'Conner nominated


Nov. 4, 2009 — The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., announced Tuesday nominees to fill the vacant Family Court judgeship in the 37th Judicial Circuit, Division 2, which serves Carter, Elliott and Morgan counties.

The three attorneys named as nominees to fill the vacancy are Gary Everett Conn, David Doran Flatt and Steve O’Connor.

The Family Court judgeship was left vacant by Judge Kristi Gossett, who resigned May 22.

Nominees are:

• Gary Everett Conn of Grayson was previously an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the 37th Judicial Circuit, which consists of Carter, Elliott and Morgan counties. He earned his juris doctor at the University of Kentucky College of Law.

• David Doran Flatt of Olive Hill is the commonwealth’s attorney for the 37th Judicial Circuit, which consists of Carter, Elliott and Morgan counties. He earned his juris doctor at Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.

• Steve O’Connor of West Liberty is the Morgan County attorney. He earned his juris doctor at Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law.

A letter naming the three nominees is sent to Gov. Steve Beshear for review. The governor has 60 days to appoint a replacement, and his office makes the announcement.
