Dec. 9, 2009 — Voters in Carter and Lewis Counties elected Republican Jill York as state representative for the 96th District, by a margin of 882 votes.
With a turnout rate of 16%, York received 1,702 votes in Carter County, while Democrat candidate Barry Webb got 1,285.
In Lewis County there was a 13% turnout rate with York 843 votes to Webb’s 378 votes.
“I am proud and humbled at the same time,” York said after the election Tuesday evening.
“Proud to have the opportunity to represent the people of Carter and Lewis Counties and at the same time humbled by the confidence the people have put in me. It is a great honor that I don’t take lightly. I look forward to doing my very best for them.”
