Grayson progress towards Voice/Siren System announced
Dec. 16, 2009 — The “City of Grayson” continues to make progress towards the construction of the voice/siren warning system. At the December meeting, the City Council voted to accept the bid of B & C Electronics of Chillocothe, Ohio to install the four sirens throughout the community. Sites for these sirens will be at the entrance of Kentucky Christian University, East Carter High School, the Little League Field, and the future site of the Grayson Fire Department.
The City has received FEMA’s environmental approval for installation of these sirens. Mayor Steele has signed a financial contract between Kentucky Homeland Security and the City of Grayson for the project to begin.
Kentucky Homeland Security awarded the City’s Emergency Management the full allowable amount of 75% with the remainder to be raised. The City continues to receive donations for the system. Those who have pledged and made contributions are Kentucky Christian University, Commercial Bank, First National Bank, City National Bank, Farm Bureau Insurance, and Stamper’s Carpet. Realizing the importance and the considerable benefit of this warning system, the City of Grayson made the first donation of $15,000 towards the project.
With the help of his art students, East Carter High School teacher, Charles McDaniels, designed and created a billboard to be placed near the City Building; enabling the community to see the progress towards raising the money for the system.
Donations are continuing to be accepted and may be mailed to the City Building at 302 East Main Street in care of the City of Grayson Emergency Management.
