Ruby Gilliam Rayburn

1921-2009

OLIVE HILL - Ruby Gilliam Rayburn, age 88, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord, Monday afternoon, June 8, at her residence in Olive Hill.

Mrs. Rayburn was born May 22, 1921, in Carter County, a daughter of the late John Milt and Abbie Nolen Gilliam.

Ruby was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She has been a faithful Christian for more than sixty-eight years and was a member of the Walnut Grove Community Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Thamer Rayburn, July 19, 1990; one son, Oscar Rayburn; one grandson, Ralph Mitchell Lawhorn; two great-grandchildren, Jerrod Lawhorn and Mica Robertson; three sons-in-law, Carlos Conley, Ralph Lawhorn and Harold Parker; two brothers, Homer Gilliam and Lovell Gilliam; four sisters, Dovie Gilliam, Louise Gilliam, Gertie Henderson and Geneva Littleton.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Bernice Rayburn, Arthur and Kathy Rayburn all of Emerson, Chalmer and Bonnie Rayburn, Woodrow and Pat Rayburn, Donnie and Kathy Rayburn all of Olive Hill; eleven daughters and sons-in-law, Margie Conley, Doretta Webb, Loretta Parker, Diana and Mike Sammons, Nancy and Donnie Fannin, Rosetta and Earl Bond, Debbie and Phillip Reynolds, Garnet and Randall Nichols, Barb and Bobby Butler all of Olive Hill, Shirley and Gary Dean of Wakeman, Ohio, Linda and Patrick Taylor of Emerson; seventy grandchildren, one hundred seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Gilliam of Knightstown, Indiana; three sisters, Lorene Porter of Knightstown, Indiana, Betty of Mansfield, Ohio, Tottise Howard of Charleston, West Virginia. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Roy Bryant and Brother Gayle Price officiating. Burial followed in the Walnut Grove Cemetery on Walnut Grove Ridge in Olive Hill.

Her sons served as pallbearers.

Burnice Emogene Lyons

1924-2009

OLIVE HILL - Burnice Emogene Lyons, age 84, of Olive Hill, passed away, Monday evening, June 1, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.

Ms. Lyons was born November 20, 1924, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Tackett Lyons.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Mary Hedge Lyons; two brothers, John "Jack" Phillip Lyons and MacArthur Lyons; and one sister, Pauline Lyons Bailey.

Burnice is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Donna Lyons, Clarence "Frankie" and Jeanne Lyons both of Olive Hill; three sisters, Myra Carroll and Jorene Lyons Griffey both of Olive Hill, Floretta Cameron of Ashland. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Andy Lyons and Brother J. C. Bond officiating. Burial followed in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Andy Lyons, Frankie Lyons, Kurt Taylor, Jim Griffey, Von Kiser, and Jeff Kiser served as pallbearers.

Zelma Logan Hamilton

1912-2009

SARASOTA, FL - Zelma Logan Hamilton, age 96, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Lewis County, passed away, Saturday, May 30, in the Springs At Lake Pointe Woods Nursing Home in Sarasota, Florida.

Mrs. Hamilton was born October 29, 1912, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late James and Pearl Edington Logan.

Zelma was a homemaker and child care giver. She was of the Christian Holiness faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Hamilton; infant twin grandchildren; three brothers, Homer Logan, Claude Logan and Carl Logan; one sister, Mary Gilmer.

She is survived by one son, Lloyd Osborne of Camp Dix; one daughter, Regina Stone of Olive Hill; special granddaughter and sole care giver for the past twelve years, Tondodda Welch of Sarasota, Florida; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Logan of Vanceburg, and Noah Logan of Flemingsburg; two sisters, Genyth Solem of Northville, Michigan and Geraldine Fields of Emerson. She also leaves several other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, at 1068 Independence Church at Bald Point, with Brother Ronnie Enix officiating. Burial followed in the Hamilton-Mawk Cemetery on Tar Fork Road in Lewis County.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Charles “Charlie” Kenneth Seagraves

1929-2009

OLIVE HILL - Charles "Charlie" Kenneth Seagraves, age 80, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday evening, June 6, at his residence.

Mr. Seagraves was born June 3, 1929, in Carter County, a son of the late Noah and Ethel Mullins Seagraves.

Charlie, who was also called "Walnut Man " because he loved to crack walnuts, was a bricklayer at the General Refractories Brickyard in Olive Hill, for more than twenty-five years. He retired from A.O. Smith after twenty years of service. Charlie was a Navy Veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a Member of the American Legion Post # 138 of Olive Hill, and a life long member of the V.F.W. Post # 3705 of Grayson. Charlie was a thirty-five year ordained Baptist Minister.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lori Mays Knipp.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty- six years, Anna Lee Steagall Seagraves; four sons and daughters-in-law, William "Tom" and Earlene Jarvis, Terry Porter and Dennis Jarvis all of Olive Hill, Nicky Seagraves of Charlotte Harbor, Florida; four daughters and sons- in-law, Debbie Boggs, Tempie Tussey, Loretta and Tony Mays, Karen and Tracy Dickerson all of Olive Hill; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; five brothers, Curtis Seagraves, Bobby Seagraves, R.C. Seagraves, Benny Seagraves, and J.C. Seagraves all of Olive Hill. He also leaves behind other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the New Life Victory Center in Olive Hill, with Brother Bob Stapleton and Brother Marcus McCless officiating. Burial followed in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday, anytime Thursday and until the service hour Friday, at the New Life Victory Center in Olive Hill.

Larry Steagall, Raymond Lowe, Charles Larry James, Josh Jarvis, Tom Jarvis and Earsel Lee King will serve as pallbearers. Dennis Jarvis will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, is in charge of all arrangements.

Linzy Everett Stone

1933-2009

OLIVE HILL - Linzy Everett Stone, age 75, of Olive Hill, passed away, Friday afternoon, June 5, in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Mr. Stone was born November 20, 1933, in Elliott County, a son of the late Emory and Myrtle Blankenbeckler Stone.

Linzy was a sawmill owner and operator for more than forty years. He was of the Baptist faith and attend the Upper Tygart Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell Stone and George Stone; two sisters, Bertha Skaggs and Zelma Stone.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Sally Webb Stone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Jeanette Stone, Brent and Sandy Stone all of Olive Hill; four grandchildren, Kyle, Allie, Chris and Mark all of Olive Hill; five sisters and brothers-in-law; Opal Skaggs of Olive Hill, Faye and Kenneth Brown of Old Town, Madge Lewis, Gretta and Jack Flannery, Vesta and J.R. Flannery all of Elliott County. He also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 8, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Hobert Dean, Brother Eugene Rayburn, and Brother Charlie Riggs officiating. Burial followed in the Webb Cemetery on Smith Run Road in Olive Hill.

Kevin Flannery, Randy Flannery, Tim Flannery, Billy Adkins, Brandon Adkins and Vernon Cox served as pallbearers.

Elizabeth Marie Isaacs Rogers

1921-2009

GRAYSON – Elizabeth Marie Isaacs Rogers, 87, of Grayson, died Monday, June 1, at the Cumberland Point Care Center in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

She was born November 1, 1921 in Hitchins, a daughter of the late Henry Lincoln and Nellie (Caudill) Isaacs.

Preceding her in death also was her husband of 69 years, Vernon Rogers; three brothers, Charlie Isaacs, Bill Isaacs, and Wylie Isaacs; three sisters, Samantha Church, Larue Blevins, and Catherine Knipp.

Her survivors include one son, James L. (Karen) Rogers of Grove City, Ohio; one daughter, Faye R. (Carl) Jessie of Medina, Ohio; two sisters, Edith Glancy of Grayson and Ruth Skaggs of Spartanburg, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Lori Ellen Rogers of Grove City, Ohio and Jeff (Lisbeth) Jessie of Cleveland, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home with Delmar Rogers ministering. Burial followed in the Rogers Family Cemetery.

E.M. “Jack” Houck

1917-2009

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL – Jack Houck, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, passed away on May 3. Mr. Houck was born June 6, 1917, a son of the late Virgil and Mary Jane Gollihue Houck of Reedville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Vance Houck; three brothers, Lawrence, Bill and John; two sisters, Mayme Fleming and Mary Hyde.

Jack was a highly decorated (including the Silver Star) veteran of World War II. He served as a member of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division. He participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and other campaigns.

A plaque in his honor will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

A long time resident of Jacksonville Beach, he retired as Director of Parks for the city of Jacksonville Beach.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Cheryl Houck of Middleburg, FL; one sister, Naomi Houck McDavid of Hurricane, WV, and family; one sister-in-law, Jeanne Atkinson, husband Charles, and family of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack attended Beach Methodist Church where a memorial service was held on May 10.



Lloyd Felty

1929-2009

HOPEWELL - Lloyd Thomas Felty, 79, of Hopewell, passed away Sunday, June 7, at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wurtland.

Mr. Felty was born September 14, 1929 in Hopewell.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Norris Cemetery in Hopewell.
