Dorothy Jean Carroll Gee
1932-2009
GRAYSON - Dorothy Jean Carroll Gee, 76, of Grayson, a Christian woman went to be with the Lord about 6 p.m. Friday, June 19, at her home of 50 years.
Dorothy was born December 11, 1932, in Grahn, the oldest child of Grady and Lillian James Carroll.
She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church where she worshiped and enjoyed attending very much. She attended school in Grahn, and graduated from Olive Hill High School. There she met Roy Gee and later they married. Roy and Dorothy moved to Grayson and built there home in 1959. In 1960 they owned and operated Gee’s Texaco garage across from the Shangri-La Motel and restaurant for about eight years. The last two years Roy drove a tractor trailer while Dorothy ran the garage. Then in 1975 Roy became the Carter Circuit Clerk, with Dorothy as deputy clerk for 25 years. On November 7, 2002, Dorothy had a stroke and diagnosed with cancer and was bed fast for almost 7 years. Because of the blessings of God, he sent the Gee Family three wonderful ladies, Annette Mann, Jo Ann Knipp and Kelly Jo Popplewell that took care of her in her home just like a family member. Dorothy was a member of the Carter County Gideon’s and also a member of the Grayson Younger Woman’s Club, Woman’s Rotary Club, and she was a God sent wife, Mother, and Grandmother.
Her survivors include a son and daughter in law, Robert Alan and Karen Barnhill Gee of Grayson; one grandson Chad Alan Gee of Grayson; one sister Janet Rea Knipp of Olive Hill; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy T. Gee and one sister Maratha Ann Phillips.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 23, 1 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Randy Binion minister. Entombment followed in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.
Those privileged to have served as pallbearers were Chad A. Gee, Robert A. Gee, Mike Tackett, Terry Popplewell, Ted Estes, David Knipp and Garrett Davis.

Paula Dee Mauk
1966-2009
SANDY HOOK - Paula Dee Mauk, age 42, of Sandy Hook, passed away Sunday evening, June 14, in Grayson.
Ms. Mauk was born October 30, 1966, in Elliott County, a daughter of Wilma Carroll Mauk of Olive Hill, and the late Joe Mauk.
Paula was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Brandon Thompson of Olive Hill, Jerrod and Stephanie Dickerson of Sandy Hook; one granddaughter, Madison Brooke Dickerson of Sandy Hook; one brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Dazel Mauk of Olive Hill; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sonja "Lisa" and Raymond Allen Barker, Donna Adkins, Ella and Clinton Middleton all of Olive Hill. She also leaves behind several other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the Roar Cemetery in Grahn, with Brother Raymond Allen Barker and Brother Monroe Craig officiating.
Cade Miller, Michael Gallihue, Jerrod Dickerson, Darren Barker, David Barker, Vernon Adkins, Jeff Adkins and John Adkins served as pallbearers.

John L. Laney
1946-2009
SANDY HOOK - John L. Laney, age 63, of Route 1, Sandy Hook, passed away Thursday evening, June 18, at the King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Laney was born February 4, 1946, in Elliott County, a son of the late Roscoe and Blanche Barker Laney.
John was a welder and laborer. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Janet Sparks Laney; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Cindi Laney of Sandy Hook, Tracey Laney and Jennifer Lewis of Martha, four daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Aaron Riggs of Grayson, Elisha and Donnie Fannin of Isonville, Pamela Laney and Sheila Laney both of Sandy Hook; six grandchildren, Reliegh Fannin, Aubrie Laney, Alyssa Riggs, Preslie Laney Haley Riggs and Matthew Lewis; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Thelma Laney, James Paul and Virginia Laney, Roger and Connie Laney, Joe and Jennifer Laney all of Sandy Hook; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Franklin Gillum of Sandy Hook, Brenda and Bill Eldridge of Grayson. Along with a host of extended family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at the Wallowhole Independent Baptist Church with Brother Mike Adkins and Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Burial followed in the Turkey Roost Lodge Cemetery at Wallowhole.
Donnie Fannin, Aaron Riggs, Rodney Laney, Michael Laney, Derik Laney, Chris Stephens, Witty Stephens and Roger Lyons served as pallbearers.

Mildred Eda Garner Burchett
1924-2009
OLIVE HILL - Mildred Eda Garner Burchett, age 84, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday afternoon, June 17, at the residence of her granddaughter in Olive Hill.
Mrs. Burchett was born December 16, 1924, in Canon City, Colorado, a daughter of the late Jessie Homer and Maude Belle Sellers Garner.
Mildred was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She has been a faithful Christian and attended the Pleasant Valley Gospel Tabernacle Church. Her passion was writing beautiful poetry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ora "Larry" Burchett; three brothers, Miles T. Garner, Seth T. Garner and Ora L. Garner; six sisters, Zena Bourne, Marie Badgley, Delma Cox, Clara Bennett, Louise Cook and Evelyn Olguin.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Quentin Burchett; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Faye Burchett of Mount Sterling, Gregory and Mary K. Burchett of Centerville, Ohio; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Susie and William Brite of Casper, Wyoming, Linda and Ted Dura of Florissant, Colorado, Kathy and Arthur Rayburn of Vanceburg, Judith and Kenneth Owens of Roseboro, North Carolina, Karen McCarville of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nancy and Randy Young of Akron, Ohio, Bonnie and Stanley Lacy of Hudson, Florida, Garnet and David Handshoe of Hamilton, Ohio; special granddaughter and care givers, Gloria and Steve Kitchen of Olive Hill; forty-two grandchildren, sixty-two great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves numerous other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Eugene Rayburn and Brother Randy Binion officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan Cemetery on Highway 59 in Lewis County.
Dwayne Rayburn, Thamer Rayburn, Quentin Rayburn, John Rayburn, Jason Rayburn, Wesley Rayburn, Romney Owens and Wayne Owens served as pallbearers. Steve Kitchen and Johnny Kitchen served as honorary pallbearers.

1951-2009
GRAYSON - Jerry G. Miller, 57 of Grayson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 19, at Kings Daughters Medical Center.
He was born September 5, 1951 in Ashland, a son of Madeline Nickles Miller of Grayson and the late Frank J. Miller.
He was a former principal of The Miller Insurance Agency for 10 years, a pipe fitter with local #155 Pine Bluff, AK, and of Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Sharon Smith Miller of Grayson, one son Jerry Franklin Miller of Olive Hill; two daughters Nicole Miller of Lexington, and Lauren and husband John Rice of Olive Hill; one step-daughter Tara Roar of Wayne, one sister Rita and husband Danny Greer of Grayson; two brothers Mickey and wife Cindy Miller and Jackie and wife DeeLisa Miller both of Grayson; 5 Grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home by Joed Rice. Burial followed in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.

Kathleen Hardy

GRAYSON – Ruth Kathleen Hammonds Hardy, 93, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 18, in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born December 1, 1915 at Willard, a daughter of the late Dell and Rosa Bowling Hammonds.
Kathleen was a homemaker and a member of the Cherokee Freewill Baptist Church, where she was saved and baptized.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estill Hardy; two daughters, Loretta Fern Hardy and Bonnie Dell Hardy; two brothers, Fred Hammonds and Herbert Hammonds and four sisters, Amy Lawson, Lena Hart, Belva Frasier and Dora Ray.
Her survivors include two sons, Glen (Mary) Hardy of Grayson and Elva (Brenda) McDavid of Argillite; one daughter, Louella (Haskell) Burke of Grayson; two sisters, Francis Parker of Olive Hill and Ruby Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 20, at 4 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Delmar Rogers, officiating. Burial followed in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

ASHLAND – Walter Archie Fulford, 61, of Ashland, died Sunday morning, June 21 at Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born December 13, 1947 at West Swanzey, New Hampshire.
Services will be Wednesday at noon at Preston Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.

Delores was born January 25, 1941 at Lawrence County.
