Aug. 4, 2010 — Daniel Lee Taynor

1973 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Daniel Lee Taynor, 36, of Olive Hill, passed away August, 2, in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.

Mr. Taynor was born Sept.22, 1973, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Barbara Ellen May Mustain of Olive Hill, Ky, and Daniel Joseph Taynor of Columbus, Ohio.

Daniel was a telecommunication and masonry worker and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Mustain, Jr., and his maternal grandmother, Shirley Moore May.

In addition to his father, he is survived by a son, Charles Lee Taynor of Ashland, Ky, a daughter, Faith Renae Taynor of Grayson, Ky, one brother, Joe May of Olive Hill, one sister, Crystal Brown of Morehead,   and his maternal grandfather, Paul May of Fallsburg, Ky.

He also leaves numerous other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Graveside services were held    August 6, at Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky, with Buridena Workman officiating.

Joe May, Roy Brown, Charles Mustain, III, Thomas Perry, Jeff Newell, and Jessie Dailey will serve as pallbearers.

Olive Francis Mabry Conley

1927 – 2010

OHIO – Olive Francis Mabry Conley, 3 , of New Madison, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill,  passed away  August 3, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs. Conley was born March 14, 1927, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Reece and Mary Nola Parish Mabry.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Ernest Conley; one daughter, Connie Kay Conley; and one brother, Roy Mabry.

Olive was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Lou Jean and Phillip Lawson of New Madison, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Hester Jenkins of Minford, Ohio, and Alene Conley of Olive Hill, one nephew, Phillip A. Lawson, Jr. and Jennifer of Miamisburg, Ohio; one great nephew, Jordan Matthew Lawson and one great niece, Kylie Elizabeth Lawson.

Funeral services were held   August 6, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill,  with Brother Rex Sagraves officiating.

Burial followed in the Clay Cemetery on Highway 955 in Olive Hill.

 Paula Hardy

1960 – 2010

GRAYSON –  Paula Hardy of Grayson, Ky, surrounded by family, peacefully entered the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on June 26, at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio.

The daughter of the late Eueneva "Tootie" Leah Gallion Hardy. And  Mervil D "Todd" and Linda Lyon Hardy of Grayson, Ky.

Paula was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 7,1960, she was a life long resident of Carter County, attended Prichard Elementary and East Carter High School.

Paula's life was a gift to all who knew her. People were drawn to her easy laughter,her caring heart, excitement for life, sense of adventure, her genuine nature and goodness. She had a way of making you feel that no matter what was going on in her life, you came first. She had a sense of humor like no other, she always had a laugh to give away. Paula's life was an example of a life whose riches owed little to money. She loved the excitement of Kentucky Wildcats baketball ,music, bingo, whitewater rafting, caring for all of God's little creatures, spending time with friends and family. She was always taking care of someone or something. She had a sense that the things you do today may seem small, but you should take every opportunity to help wherever you can. She was currently active in a research study in CLL. In her devotion in this research she once said " If this research does not help me, I know that in the future it will help someone".

Paula was a Breast Cancer Survior . She was a member of the Sister Study (breast cancer research) She had worked as an EMT, an employee for HHC(home health care) based in Ashland, Ky, Passages to Adventure in Oak Hill,West Virginia.

She is survived by brothers Ricky Lee "Fish" Hardy (Amy),Christain Todd "Toddy" Hardy,nephew Michael Craig,niece Alisha Che Hardy all of Grayson, Kentucky.

Sister Carla Hardy McFerron(Vince "Vinnie") nephew Austin McFerron, niece Heather Knipp Gilley(Steve) great nieces Averi Nicole and Gracie Leah Gilley, great nephew Elijah "Eli" James Gilley,nephew Heath Knipp(Melissa) great nieces Stella Vaughn and Charlotte Michelle Knipp,great nephew Scot Douglas Knipp all of Greencastle ,Indiana.

"Mamaw" Delta Lyon of Isonville Kentucky.

Uncles and Aunts; Bill and Nell Hardy,June and Phyllis Hardy, Ed and Sue Hardy, Bob and Claudine Thomas, James and Linda Gallion, Barbara Young. Along with several cousins and very special friends, Bill, Cherri, Cindy, Debbie, Evelyn, Kevin,Terry......

Gallion, uncles and aunts; Beatrice,Eddie and Curt Gallion,Gladys and Max Bowling, Cosetta Young Hardy,Ervin Hardy, Richard and Lucy Hardy Jolly, Cousin Allen Gallion.

Funeral services were June 29,  at the Gregoryville Holiness Christian Church. Officiating: Lewis Davis   Interment: Rude Cemetery Flatwoods, Ky.

Kathryn Johnson

1951 – 2010

WILLARD –   Kathryn Johnson,  59, of Willard, died August 1, at Community hospice in Ashland, Ky.

She was born April 29, 1951 in Louisa, Ky, a daughter of Chester of Webbville and the late Shirley Webb Daniels...

Her survivors include her husband James Johnson of Willard, Ky, one daughter Susan Gilliam of Willard, Ky; one son James Lyndon Johnson of Willard, Ky; five sisters Wilma Stambaugh of Louisa, Anna Johnson of Willard Ky, Kay LeMaster of Louisa , Darlene McCoy of Louisa Ky, and Jane Webb of Louisa, four brothers Dean Webb, Wayne Webb, Troy Webb, and Larry Webb, all of Louisa, Ky.

She was preceded in death by one son Neal Kirby Johnson and her mother, Shirley Daniels Webb.

Funeral services were August   4, at the Malone Funeral Home, Ray McGranahan, minister.

Burial was in the  family cemetery at Hickory Hollow near Willard.

 Walter “Brent” Whitton,         

 1949 – 2010

FLORIDA – Walter “Brent” Whitton, 60, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Olive Hill, Ky, passed away July 27, in Bay Pines, Florida.

Born August 16, 1949, in Maysville, Ky, he was the son of the late John Matthew and Mary Ruth Wells Whitton.  

Brent is survived by his wife, Sarah Lewis Whitton, whom he wed January 29, 1971, in Wallingford, Ky. two daughters, Dr. Shannon Egleston and Summer Whitton, of Clearwater, Florida; one sister, Michelle Stout of Danville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Abriana Natasha Egleston, and three grandsons, Steven Tyler Whitton, Vincent Alexander Whitton, and Zane Bradley Egleston, all of Clearwater, Florida.

Other survivors include Sarah’s brothers and sisters, J. W. and Lou Lewis and Wayne and Doni Lewis of Hillsboro, Ky,  and Betty and Jimmy Hamilton and Danny and Edie Lewis of Wallingford, Kentucky, as well as other devoted family members.  

Brent, a graduate of Morehead State University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force.  He was a GTE employee for 26 years and worked in several locations including Fleming, Rowan, and Carter counties.  For the past several years, he and Sarah resided in Clearwater, Florida.  Brent was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater.   

A memorial service will be held August 14, at 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Hamm officiating.    

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.

William Preston Bradley Caskey

1985 – 2010

NORTH CHARLESTON –  William Preston Bradley Caskey, 24, of North Charleston, S.C., Formerly of Grayson, Ky, died August, 3, afternoon in North Charleston.

He was born Sept, 20, 1985 in Ashland, Ky, and was of the Catholic Faith. William was a US Army Veteran, serving in Iraq, where he received the Purple Heart Medal. After being medically discharged from the Military he was furthering his education at the Trident technical College in Charleston, S.C. where he was studying Culinary Arts.

He was preceded in death by two special uncles Arthur Bloomfield and Aaron Keith Bradley, two great-grandmothers, Avonell Bradley and Maria Nigbur.

He is survived by two Special Mothers Denisa Caskey and Nancy Bradley, two special fathers Greg A. Caskey and Norman D. Bradley; his fiancée Dominique Cassetori; one brother Jonathon Levi Barnes and his wife Andrea; one sister Alexis Collins; his maternal grandparents, James and Karin Bloomfield; his paternal grandparents, William R. and Margaret  Bradley; a brother of the heart, Joshua E.  Allen; and two special Pets, Abby and Darvin. In addition to these he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives that sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral Services were conducted  August 10, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.

Burial followed in the East Carter Memory Gardens, with military rites being conducted by the U.S. Army Reserve.

Leroy (PeeWee)Sparks

1944 – 2010

SOLDIER –   Leroy (PeeWee) Sparks, 66, of Soldier, Ky, passed away August 7, at his residence.

He was born April 28, 1944, in Carter County, Ky, son of the late Samuel Justice and Christine Brinegar Sparks. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie and Gracie Sparks.

PeeWee is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gilbert Sparks; one son; Leroy Junior Sparks, of Rowan County, Ky, seven daughters, Angie Henderson of Salt Lick, Ky, Elizabeth Sparks, Connie Jo Sparks, Vickie Bair and Denise Sparks, all of Soldier, Ky, and Lorie Waddell and Gail Dermon, both of Morehead, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, Mack Sparks of Morehead, and Ross Sparks of Olive Hill, Kentucky; four sisters, Susie Baer of Morehead, Donna Reynolds and Joy Henderson, both of Olive Hill, Ky, and Betty Enix of Lewis County, Ky.

PeeWee was a former construction worker, an honest man, and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services were conducted August, 10 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Mike Atkins officiating.

Burial followed at the McKenzie Mountaintop Cemetery in Grahn, Ky.

Pallbearers were Bryan Sparks, Brandon Henderson, Brent Stinson, Roger Waddell, Phillip Henderson, Michael Adams, Bo Sparks, and Leroy Junior Sparks.

 Larry Woodford

Gollihue

1938 – 2010

GRAYSON – Larry Woodford Gollihue 72, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord August 7, at Community Hospice Center in Ashland following a long battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Hitchins, Ky a son of the late Wm. H. and Verna Helen Rice Gollihue. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Shelby Willis Gollihue, and an infant son, Edgar Allen Gollihue.

Surviving are his: Wife of 51 years Rubie Carroll Gollihue.

One daughter Anita (Mordy) Tice one son Glen Gollihue, one brother, Donnie Gerald (Verna) Gollihue, of Denton two sisters Glenna Joan (Don) Wyatt of Colton Ohio, and Jenny Kay (Curtis)Carroll of Napoleon, Ohio, two grand daughters, Christine Gollihue of South Point Ohio, Rebekah Joanne Gollihue of Wauseon, Ohio. Three Great grand daughters Calista M, Chloe and Avery Gollihue of South Point, Ohio, and many other relatives and treasured friends.

Larry Proudly served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in Jan. 1960.  After retiring from Chrysler Corp. in Perrysburg, Ohio, he managed “Larry’s Guitar Shop” in Grayson for 11 years.  He was an active member of Marantha  Bible Church in Webbville for 17 years where he faithfully played music and sang. Larry was a loving gentleman and touched many lives with his kindness.

Funeral services were August 10, at the Maranatha Bible Church in Webbville, with burial in the Maranatha Church Cemetery.

Edgel Marshall

1924 – 2010

GRAYSON – Edgel Marshall, 85, of Grayson, passed away August 6, at the community Hospice Care Center.

He was born Sept. 9, 1924 in W.Va. a son of Roy and Ruth Flynn Marshall.  

He was retired from Hitchins General Refractories and a member of the Grayson V.F.W. Post 3705.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 2nd Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion and E-Company.  He participated in five campaigns in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star.  

He was preceded in death by is wife Jean Marshall, one sister Chlotine Colegrove; three brothers William “Bill” Marshall, Claude Lee Marshall and Elmer “Todd “ Marshall; three brother in laws Royce Porter, Denver Porter and Clarence Colegrove.  

His survivors include: his daughter, Vicki (and husband Kevin) Young of Grayson; one grandson, Kurt (and wife Lauren) Young of Hebron, Ky; three sisters, Verna (and husband Donnie) Gollihue of Denton, Emma Porter of Hitchins and Dollie Porter of Hitchins; one brother, James “Shorty” (and wife Ruby) Marshall of Grayson; two sisters-in law, Betty Marshall of Rush and Gay Marshall of Grayson; his girlfriend, Susie Kouns of Hitchins.

Funeral services were conducted August 10, at Malone Funeral Home with Steven Keyes, officiating.

Burial was in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Florence Jenell Sparks

1931 – 2010

GRAYSON – Florence Jenell Sparks, 79, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on August 8, at Elliott Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 8, 1931 at Carter County, a daughter of the late Thurman and Goldie Fannin Hay.

She was a homemaker and was of the Christian Baptist Faith. Preceding her in death was her husband, Billie Sparks in 2009, a grandson, Doug Sparks, three sisters, Ada Lattier, Carrie Nolan and Betty Mullins and two brothers, Curtis Hay and Elbert Hay.

Her survivors include, one daughter, Tammy (and husband Doug) Rogers of Grayson, three sons, Buell (and wife Carol) Sparks, Larry (and wife Florence) Sparks and Jerry (and wife Gail) Sparks all of Grayson; one brother, Walter Hay of Newark, Ohio, ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted August 12, at 1: p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Delmar Rogers, officiating.

Burial will be in the Messer-Rogers Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9  p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronald B. Boggs

1938 – 2010

OHIO –  Mr. Ronald B. Boggs, age 71, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away August 9, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria, Ohio, following a short illness.

Mr. Boggs was born August 14, 1938, in Grayson, Ky, a son of Mae Easterling Boggs of Grayson, Ky, and the late Lawrence Boggs.

Ronald was a resident of Elyria, Ohio, the past 37 years after moving from Grahn, Ky He worked for Invacare in Elyria for over 15 years, retiring in 1994. Ronald was a member of Christian Unity Church in Grafton, Ohio.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Eythel James Boggs of Elyria, Ohio; a son, Mark Boggs of Elyria, Ohio; a granddaughter, Sarah Boggs-Roig of Elyria, Ohio; two sisters, Naomi Ratcliff of Grayson, and Lorraine McGlone of Cartersville, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.  August 14, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill,  with Brother Tom James and Brother John Jordan officiating.

Burial will follow in the Easterling Cemetery on Upper Stinson Road in Grayson, Ky.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. August 13, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, and until the service hour Saturday.
