3 high school seniors eligible for scholarship

In 1988 People Helping People Inc. (PHP) was found as a 501c3 non-profit organization. Since that time, PHP has provided financial assistance to area residents in the form of utility payments, medical/prescription expenses, grocery/food purchases, funeral expenses, etc… PHP’s primary source for raising funds is its Thursday and Friday evening bingo games in Coalton.

PHP Director, John Jenkins said, “in the past year, our bingo games have experienced a significant increase in attendance. It is great to know the players’ money is being used to help others in our surrounding communities.”

In honor and memory of Leon Tackett, PHP’s founder and past president, the board of directors established a yearly scholarship program – The Leon Tackett Memorial Scholarship.

This year’s three local high school seniors will receive a one-time gift of $500 to help with tuition, books, fees or other school-related expenses. Jenkins said, “we are pleased to offer this scholarship program to local students in Leon’s memory.”
