ECMS wins state science award
The East Carter Middle School Science Club has been told that they will be receiving the "Gold" award for the best outdoor classroom of the year by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife for their efforts in creating an outdoor classroom, community involvement, and improving habitat for Kentucky wildlife. Each year schools from all over the state enter their projects to have them certified as an official Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the KDFW. The department recognizes three levels of achievement, standard, silver, and gold, and one project is chosen each year as the outdoor classroom of the year. The club will travel to Frankfort with their sponsor, Beverly McDavid, to accept the award in April, which will be presented by Mrs. Beshear. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife will then provide pizza for the students. A display is set up at the Salato Wildlife Center featuring photos and a description of the efforts of the Science Club and the work they have done. They will also be featured in an upcoming edition of the Kentucky Afield magazine.
