Little League has wrapped up in Carter County, and the All Star teams are already practicing to prepare for the tournaments at the end of the month.
In Olive Hill, the nine and 10-year-old All Stars are Roger Wages, Dillon Dean, Stephen Redecker, Chase Preston, Bryan Middleton, Dustin Tolliver, Trevor Middleton, Kaden Thompson, Levi Dummitt and Brianna Jessie. On the 10 and 11-year-old team, players include Cameron Bailey, Albert Mercado, Ethan Brown, Chris Johnson, Austin Brown, Chaz Steagall, Bradford Bradley, Chase Hanshaw, Richard McGlone, and Tyler Rayburn.
Olive Hill’s 11 and 12-year-old girls softball All Stars are Leannah Bailey, Leatha Reynolds, Allie Cox, Tesla Henderson, Alexis Berry, Brooke Adkins, Alyssa Shelton, Madison Patrick, Amber Thornsberry, Stacey Easterling, Haleigh Hanshaw, and Morgan McGlone.
In Grayson, the nine and 10-year-old bseball All Stars are Timothy Harlow, Alex Wells, Peyton Brown, Chase Willis, Trey Cline, Ryan Rhodes, Evan Huddle, Cadan Adams, Caleb James, Cameron James, Dawson Graber, and Josh Keller. The 10 and 11-year old team includes Jordan Walburn, Trey Roe, Trace Jackson, Blake Dunn, Brady Griffith, Kaleb Jessie, Kyle Knipp, Brandon Harper, Brayden Brown, Nicholas Collier, Gunnar Jarvis, and Garrett Bush.
The nine and 10-year old Tournmant will take place at Lewis County. Grayson will play host to the 10 and 11-year old tournament while the 11 and 12-year-old teams head to Morehead.

Duel of the fates!
Monday night may have marked the fourth-straight district title for the West Carter Lady Comets, but there was no loser in Carter County's battle for softball supremacy. After expectedly winning the opening round games of the 62nd District tournament, East and West Carter duked it out in the nightcap, with the Lady Comets claiming victory, 1-0, in a memorable battle on the mound at Morgan County.

Raiders whip Lions, advance to 62nd finals
With the threat of rain looming, the show known as the 62nd District baseball tournament went on as planned Monday night. The East Carter Raiders advanced to the finals of the 62nd district Monday night by beating Elliott County 16-0 in the opening game at J.P. Kouns field in Grayson.

Tackett delivers walk off hit to advance Comets
The West Carter Comets survived the Cougars of Morgan County in the first round of the 62nd district tournament Monday night, winning another nail biter, 6-5. Comet pitcher Tanner Tackett allowed two hits in the first inning, giving the Cougars the first run to open the game.

East competes in 2A state track meet
After a solid showing in the 6th Region competition, the East Carter track & field team took its show on the road to Louisville last Friday to compete in the Class 2A State meet. Led by Kerrick Burchett, Alex Napier, Ben Napier, and Dustin Sexton’s fourth place finish in the 4x800 m relay, the Raiders managed five points on its way to 35th-place finish.

WCMS Warriors claim district crown
West Carter Middle School baseball put the icing on a successful season last Thursday night, defeating the Russell Red Devils 11-1 in the district finals to bring home the area gold. The Warriors’ final game of the season turned out to not be much of a game at all.

Lady Raiders rain runs on senior night
It is tough to say goodbye, but the process is a little easier when you do it with style. Last Friday night, the East Carter Lady Raiders made mincemeat of a visiting Pike County Central squad, winning both games of a doubleheader by the scores of 10-0 and 12-1.

Dyer wins three events at track and field regional
On Saturday at the Class 2A Region 6 Track and Field Championships at Ashland Blazer High School, it seemed as if anything the East Carter coaching staff asked Macy Dyer to do, she did. Despite not being able to compete in one of her best events, the high jump, due to an injury, the Lady Raider sophomore still managed to come away from the meet as the most decorated individual in the competition.

Lady Comets brandish win over Bulldogs
The West Carter Lady Comets softball team had a quick change of fortune this past Saturday. West’s girls cured the sting of an 8-1 loss at the hands of Johnson Central, with a big win over Lawrence County, 7-6. In a game that required 12 innings to finish, the Lady Comets fought tooth and nail with the Lady Bulldogs in a back and forth affair.

MSU’s new head men’s basketball coach says he does not want to be recognized as the “Unforgettable” UK basketball player of years past. Instead, Sean Woods has plans to lead his new program to an unforgettable status of its own. After six successful seasons under former head coach Donnie Tyndall, the Eagles moved forward with the official hiring of Woods on Monday afternoon.

The East Carter Middle School girls soccer team pulled off two big wins this past weekend, bringing home district gold with a big win over a formidable foe. After defeating Boyd County 8-1 in Friday evening’s semifinals matchup, the Lady Raiders set their sights on a showdown with another premiere middle school program.
