March 13, 2013 — Several members of the East and West Carter archery teams have qualified for the Kentucky NASP State Archery Tournament after a great showing at the regional tournament.
There were 679 archers from across the region from 25 schools and with nearly 3,000 in attendance over two days.
East Carter High School took top honors in the high school division by placing first among seven schools with a score of 3340 out of a possible 3600. The high school division in Region 14 qualified six of the seven teams for state, demonstrating the caliber of competition in the region.
In the middle school division, East Carter Middle placed second out of eight middle school teams and also qualified to shoot at the state tournament with a score of 3075. The middle school division qualified four of the eight teams in the region for the state tournament.
Although there were elementary-aged shooters from Carter County in the tournament, there were no complete teams shooting for the top elementary team spots. However, there were successes and state qualifiers in the elementary divisions on the individual level, as listed.
Individual standouts from Carter County who also qualified for the state tournament in their respective individual divisions, and who took a full 24 percent of the total individual awards from the tournament are as follows:
