West wipes out Bath

Aug. 31, 2010 —     The Comets football team dominated Bath County Friday night, 39-0.

West showed off their versatility against the young Lions, going 147 yards in the air and 281 on the ground for a total of 428 net yards.

Quarterback Harrison Bond went 4-for-6 in the air, three of which led to touchdowns.  Danny Cline grabbed two passes while Drew Oney and Cody Stamper had one each. Cline led the team in rushing yardage, going 141 yards in eight carries. Bond held the keeper to rush 53 yards on five carries. Timmy Bradley had eight carries for 49 yards and Caleb Whitt had 40 yards in four. Tyler McGlone had 18 in three.

Oney and Bond grabbed an interception each and McGlone scooped up a fumble recovery.

“We saw early what we would be able to do,” Coach Kevin Brown said. “We started clicking early and the boys did a good job taking control of the game.”

With such an obvious advantage over Bath County, West was able to substitute some of their younger players into the game.

“We had our underclassmen playing most of the second half,” Brown said. “It makes things better as far as getting those guys some experience on Friday night. Bath is a young team and our speed was a little bit too much for them.”

West will travel to Nicholas County Friday for a 7:30 p.m. match up.

“They are 2-0 so they will be more than ready for us,” Brown said. “They are a power football team and run right at you.”
