ECMS girls soccer grabs district gold

May 18, 2012 — The East Carter Middle School girls soccer team pulled off two big wins this past weekend, bringing home district gold with a big win over a formidable foe.

After defeating Boyd County 8-1 in Friday evening’s semifinals matchup, the Lady Raiders set their sights on a showdown with another premiere middle school program.

Saturday afternoon, the Lady Raiders put together an impressive display of defense against Russell, while tallying three goals to bring home the gold.

An aggressive Russell offense led to a reeling defense for East, allowing Russell to pick up a goal in the first 10 minutes of play.

Trailing 1-0, the girls from Grayson settled down and began to play some soccer.

The offensive line of Maddie Dyer, Laine Morrison, Bailee Brainard, Haley Hall, Rebecca Adams and Kristen Mayo worked together to offset Russell’s goal, as Kristen Mayo found the back of the net to put East on the board.

East Carter’s defense held steady for the remainder of the game, with strong performances from Mandy Langstaff, Emille McDowell, Sayler Tuthill, and Laura Waugh, keeping Russell from a clean shot at East goalie Joscelyn Wilcox.

Mayo went on to score twice more in the half before a second half stalemate took place, allowing East’s girls the 3-1 victory.

Finishing with 16 wins and 1 loss, it was another successful season for Lady Raider middle school soccer.
