KCU ladies roll
With a sweep of the 2009 Super 8 Classic, the KCU Lady Knights rang up three more wins giving them a 7-0 start to the 2009-2010 season. On Thursday night KCU moved past Northland International University 65-31 as the Lady Knights were too much for the team from Wisconsin. Kristin Hecht led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Eric McKee also added 18 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Jon Hood scored 9 points, while junior post player Cedomir Ilic finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds. Rounding out the balanced scoring for the Knights was freshman Shawn Thompson with 8 points, sophomore Blandon Clemons 8 points, senior Jordan Garrett finished with 8 points, and junior Katlin Haney netted 7 points.
The Knights kept the ball rolling with an 82-72 win over Valley Forge in the second game of the classic. But fell short with an 80-56 loss against Grace Bible.
KCU faces Berea Thursday night at home. The tip off for the game is 8 p.m.

West wipes out Bath
The Comets football team dominated Bath County Friday night, 39-0. West showed off their versatility against the young Lions, going 147 yards in the air and 281 on the ground for a total of 428 net yards.

West’s Volleyball team lost twice to Morgan County last week, but were able to score their first victory of the season.

East gals fall at Rowan
The Lady Raiders volleyball team fell to Rowan County on the road last Thursday, 2-0. The young East Carter team was playing without three of their starters and just couldn’t seem to find their rhythm against the Lady Vikings.

West falls to Fairview in OT
The Comets took a 16-13 loss on Friday to Fariview at Blankenship Field. This is the second year in a row that West Carter has lost to the Eagles, falling 13-7 last year.

Red Devils wrap Raiders, 35-6
The Raiders opened regular season action Friday with a 35-6 loss at Russell.

Lady Comets take two
If the Lady Comets don’t win another game this season, they will have had a better year than 2009. With a 1-16-1 record last season and a brand new coach, maybe West’s first two opponents of the year weren’t expecting much from the young team…and that was a huge mistake.
