Quentin Burchett
1918-2010
Quentin Burchett, 91, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, November 23, 2010, at the residence of his granddaughter.
He was born November 27, 1918, at Smokey Valley, a son of the late Coy and Ruby Dyer Burchett. Mr. Burchett has been a faithful Christian and attended the Pleasant Valley Gospel Tabernacle Church. He worked in real estate after retiring from the military. Mr. Burchett proudly served his country in the United States Army and Air Force from 1942 until 1964.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Garner Burchett; one step-son, Ora "Larry" Burchett; five brothers, Woodrow Burchett, Bryce Burchett, Commodore Burchett, Curtis Burchett, and Vernon "Bill" Burchett; and four sisters, Garnet Burchett, Edna Burchett Logan, Madge Burchett, and Nellie Kissick.
Quentin is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Faye Burchett of Mt. Sterling, and Gregory and Mary K. Burchett of Centerville, Ohio; five daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Arthur Rayburn of Vanceburg, Judith and Kenneth Owens of Roseboro, North Carolina, Nancy and Randy Young of Akron, Ohio, Bonnie and Stanley Lacy of Hudson, Florida, and Garnet and David Handshoe of Hamilton, Ohio; three step-daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ted Dura of Florissant, Colorado, Susie and William Brite of Casper, Wyoming, and and Karen McCarville of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother, Edgar Burchett of Grayson; special granddaughter and caregivers, Gloria and Steve Kitchen of Olive Hill; 42 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves numerous other family members and friends who will truly miss him.
Funeral services were at held Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Bro. Eugene Rayburn and Bro. Clyde Holbrook officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan Cemetery in Lewis County, Kentucky. Military rites were conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138.
Dwayne Rayburn, Thamer Rayburn, Quentin Rayburn, John Rayburn, Jason Rayburn, Wesley Rayburn, Kendall Davis, and Romney Owens served as pallbearers. Steve Kitchen, Johnny Kitchen, and Shannon Hamilton served as honorary pallbearers. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.globefc.com.
Opal Margaret Caudill Howard
1923-2010
Opal Margaret Caudill Howard, 87, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 30, 2010, at her residence. She was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Breathitt County, Ky., a daughter of the late James Caudill and Mary June Honn Caudill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Howard Sr.; a brother, Joe Caudill; and two sisters, Dixie Brown and Martha Stacy.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Charles D. Howard Jr. and his wife, Minnie, of Grayson, Ky.; a brother, Col. James Caudill of Leavenworth, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Joe Stacey of West Liberty, Ky.; a sister, Helen Black of Nicholasville, Ky.; a granddaughter, Dr. Candice Howard-Claudio and her husband, Dr. Pier Paolo; and two great-grandchildren, Carley and Franco. In addition to these, she is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to a special caregiver and friend, Elsie Gilbert of Grayson, Ky.
Mrs. Howard attended Morgan County High School, where she was a drum majorette and graduated from Morehead State University, where she was a drum majorette. She was a retired teacher in the Kentucky School System, retired from the Greenup County Clerk’s Office in the 1960s and spent the last 20 years of her working career with the Department of Human Resources in Grayson, Ky. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 10, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and Bagby Memorial Methodist Church in Grayson, Ky.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Ky., with Larry Bair officiating. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson, Ky. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at the funeral home. Brenda Lee Hall Stevens
1958-2010
Brenda Lee Hall Stevens, 51, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2010 in Community Hospice Center in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 20, 1958, in Columbus, OH, a daughter of Lorain Dickerson Hall of Grayson and the late Ralph Boyd Hall. She was a retired seamstress working mostly for Corbin Industries, and attended the Fellowship Christian Baptist Church.
Her survivors including her mother are: one son Chad William and wife Nina Stevens of Emerson, KY; one daughter Martha Marie Stevens of Denton, KY; three sisters Eunice Hall of Acworth, GA, Imogene and husband Pat Greer of Denton, KY and Judy and husband Frank Schooley of Cynthiana, KY; one brother Jeff and wife Katherine Hall of Grayson; two nieces Shawna Hall and Katie Richmond and one nephew Peyton Schooley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Christian Baptist Church with Bryan Whitt and Larry Ison officiating. Burial will be in Hall-Dickerson family cemetery.
