James Eventine Underwood
1937 – 2012
James Eventine Underwood, 74, of Underwood Lane, Olive Hill, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born April 19, 1937, in Carter County, he was the son of the late Harry Russell and Lucille Clark Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death one brother, William Garfield Underwood.
James is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Holbrook Underwood, whom he married October 11, 1957; three sons, James David Underwood of Olive Hill, Timothy Edward Underwood of Morehead and Shawn Michael Underwood of Lawton; one daughter, Julie Ann Wilson of Olive Hill; one brother and sister, Wilford Russell Underwood and Mildred Stamm, both of Connersville, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
James was an auto mechanic at Tackett’s Service Station for 18 years and Underwood’s Garage in Lawton for 4 years. He enjoyed watching old movies and Westerns, gardening and several years ago he enjoyed tending to his honey bees. James was a member of the Bowen Chapel United Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Dale Richmond officiating. Burial was in the Underwood Family Cemetery in Lawton.
Pallbearers: Troy Wilson, Willie Archer, Shawn Underwood, Timothy Edward Underwood, Brad Vanlandingham, Shawly Boggs and Jackie Brown.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. Friday, February 17, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
