04-19-12 — Mr. John Allen Stapleton, 69, of Carter Caves Road, Olive Hill, passed away Wednesday morning, November 14, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born July 29, 1943, in Carter County, a son of the late John L. and Sarah Stevens Stapleton.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a retired operator for Marathon. He enjoyed dirt biking, four wheeling, hunting, UK basketball, NASCAR, working with Meals on Wheels and spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Stapleton and Arnold Stapleton.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Bryant Stapleton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elisabeth and Terry Vest of Russell, and Debbie and Keith Holcomb of Blackshear, Ga.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Lou Ann Stapleton of Melbourne, Fla.; and four sisters and a brother-in-law, Nina Dowdy of Columbus, Ohio, Anita Roberts of Kissimmee, Fla., Janice and Glen Lemaster of Cannonsburg, and Alyce Thompson of Olive Hill. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Roar Cemetery in Grahn with Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, and until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Michael Holcomb, Phillip Thompson, Pat Thompson, Paul Bryant, Chris Bryant, Jason Griffey and Tyler Vest will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels of Olive Hill, P. O. Box 239, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
