The race is won, the victory is mine. Heaven’s kingdom is my reward. Mr. Billy Ray Tackett, age 58, of Olive Hill, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, April 30, 2012, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, with his family by his side, after fighting his courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 14, 1953, in Carter County, a son of Billy and Carol Tackett of Mansfield, Ohio, and the late Velda and Gene Dunaway. Billy was a Christian and was retired from AK Steel. He had a passion for coin collecting and fishing and was a loving husband, father, papa and friend to all who knew him. In addition to his mother and stepfather, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Neil Tackett. In addition to his father and stepmother, Billy is survived by his loving wife, Lauretta Joan Barker Tackett; five children, April Tackett of Olive Hill, Aaron (Jessica) Tackett of Grayson, Billie Jo Reynolds of Olive Hill, Bryan Holbrook of Olive Hill, and Rhonda (Rick) Gearhart of Olive Hill; one brother, David (Kay) Tackett of Morehead, one sister, Debra Ann Adkins of Olive Hill, and grandmother, Ruthabelle Tackett of Mansfield, Ohio. He is also survived by seven grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Brianna and Marleigh Buckler, Jesse Wilburn, Whitley Tackett, Kierra Tackett, and Christian and Blake Gearhart. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing, as well as his faithful companion, Butch. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Andy Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanshaw Cemetery on Route 986 in Olive Hill. Friends may visit from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012, anytime on Thursday, May 3, 2012, and until the service hour on Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill.
Jeff Jarrell, Jimmy Littleton, Allen Frazier, Carlos Duncan, Andy Bond, Mitchell Lane, and Rick Gearhart will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Tackett, David Tackett, and Jesse Wilburn.
