Feb. 20, 2012 — Mr. Lester Eugene "Gene" Knipp, 72, of Olive Hill, passed away Sunday morning, February 19, 2012, at his residence.
He was born June 2, 1939, in Carter County, a son of the late Ernest and Olive Clay Knipp.
Gene attended the First Baptist Church in Olive Hill, was retired from CSX Railroad and was a bus driver for Northeast Head Start. He played basketball for Olive Hill High School and softball for the Texaco Sluggers, an adult traveling team, during his earlier years. He enjoyed watching UK Basketball and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Knipp.
Gene is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Blevins Knipp; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Lisa Knipp of Olive Hill; four grandchildren, Brian Lundsten of Jacksonville, Florida and Kayla Lundsten, Shawn Knipp and Amanda Knipp, all of Olive Hill and one brother and sister-in-law, Ernest Jr. and Yvonne Knipp of Grahn. He also leaves many other family members and numerous friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, at the Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, with Brother Matt McKenzie and Brother Randy Binion officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends visited from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 21 and until the service hour on Wednesday at the Oney-Henderson Funeral Home, 145 Gearhart Street, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Olive Hill First Baptist Church Food Pantry.
