03/12/13 — Mrs. Burbie Scaggs Stone, 92, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday morning, March 11, 2013, at Elliott County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook.
She was born March 20, 1920, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late Lige and Maude Sagraves Scaggs.
Burbie was a hard worker all her life. She worked harder than most men from morning until night, then sewed for people in the neighborhood or quilted until she went to bed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Elmer Stone; one brother, Preston Talby Scaggs; and three sisters, Edna Holbrook, Pauline Boggs and Irene Boggs.
Burbie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Woodrow and Maria Stone of Lewis Center, Ohio; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and George Skaggs of Olive Hill, Mary Lois and Dan Hanak of Nancy and Alberta and Larry Fraley of Enon, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Kim Carver, Angela Payton, Mary Bartlett, Linda Feuge, Lisa Blair, Lori Kesler, Robert Fraley and Roberta Robinson; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves many other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss her. The family would like to thank Elliott County Nursing Home for taking such good care of their mother.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Rex Sagraves officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson-Scaggs Cemetery on Garris Ridge in Elliott County.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Cleo Moore, Dail Howard, Leroy Scaggs, George Payton, Marlin Stone and Lester Stone will serve as pallbearers.
