02/21/13 — Loretta Criswell Rice, 91, of Grayson, left this earth Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland with her family by her side. She was born March 19, 1921, in Gregoryville, the daughter of the late Noble and Elizabeth Drumwright Criswell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo (A.C.) Rice; one daughter, Nancy Sue Rice; two sons, Bill Paul and Donald Joe Rice; and three brothers, Edward, James and Walter D. Criswell.
She is survived by four sons, Larry Rice of Grayson, Ronnie (Barb) Rice of Grayson, Jimmie of Grayson and Timmy (Frances) Rice of Olive Hill; one daughter, Brenda (Robert) Haney of Grayson who stayed in her home and cared for her up until her death; six grandchildren, Jeff (Brooke) Rice of Grayson, Crystal Whitt of Clearfield, Alia Porter of Sandy Hook, Bill (Regina) Rice of Ashland, Sarah Ison Blevins of Sandy Hook and Nathan Rice of Olive Hill; and seven great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ian Rice of Grayson, Nicholas and Lilly Porter of Sandy Hook, Thea Jo and Shea Rice of Ashland and Ryker Ison of Sandy Hook. She was also survived by three very special sisters-in-law, Minnie (Richard) Isaacs, Anna Florence Rice and Lorraine Criswell, all of Grayson, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Loretta always looked forward to spending time with her family, especially during the holidays with everyone in her home. There is no greater love than what she felt for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She also loved to embroider and quilting. She worked many hard years on the family farm and delivered the morning newspapers for the Carter County area. She was also a substitute cook for the Carter County School System. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Malone Funeral Home by Burl Rice Jr. Burial will be in the Rice Family Cemetery on Mayhew Flats.
Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home.
