Feb. 13, 2012 — Mrs. Verna Lorene Applegate Bond, 70, of Olive Hill, passed away Sunday morning, February 12, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
She was born July 13, 1941, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Adolphus and Cynthia Mae Cannell Applegate.
Verna was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Community Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Larry Jeral Bond; one son, Thomas Lee Bond; one daughter, Becky Jo Ruckel; four brothers, Fred Applegate, Harold Applegate, Clifford Applegate and George Applegate; one sister, Helen Gottenfried; one grandson, Shane Doyle and one step-grandson, Dwayne Jeral Bond, Jr.
Verna is survived by four sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny Ray Bond of Genova, Ohio, Jeffery Allen Bond of Winchester, California, Lloyd Milton Jr. and Tracy Bond and Larry Eugene Bond Sr., all of Olive Hill; one stepson, Dwayne Jeral Bond, Sr. of Mansfield, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Sue and Eddie Stewart of Morehead and Cynthia and Kevin Royal of Olive Hill; one stepdaughter, Tammy Green and husband, Jack, of Mansfield, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Leslie "Gene" and Anne Applegate and Darrell "Bud" Applegate, all of Vanceburg and four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Alice "Sis" Clark and Nellie Bloomfield, both of Vanceburg, Marge Polley of Quincy and Donnie Jean and Donald Thoroughman of Bucyrus, Ohio. She also leaves two very special sisters, Patricia "Pat" Minch and Frances Applegate, along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who greatly loved her and will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 16, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Rudy Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Bond Family Cemetery on Highway 174 in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 16, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Stanley Bond, Jim Stewart, Brian Bond, John Bond, Carl Ruckel, Tommy Ruckel, Owen Beair, Dakota Bond and Cody Griesman will serve as pallbearers.
