04-19-12 — Mrs. Renae Gilliam Sloas, 38, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, December 4, 2012, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland after a long illness.
She was born October 3, 1974, Rowan County, a daughter of Lowell Allen Gilliam of Olive Hill and the late Patricia Sue Workman Sammons.
Renae attended King’s Way Ministry and was a cook at Olive Hill Elementary. She enjoyed spending time sketching as was evident by her beautiful drawings. She especially loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her mother, Renae was preceded in death by her grandparents who helped raise her, Lovell and Phyllis Gilliam.
In addition to her father, Renae is survived by her estranged husband, William Scott Sloas, who truly was one of her best friends; one son whom she adored, Austin Dewayne Porter of Olive Hill; one stepdaughter whom she thought of as her own, Brooklyn Rain Sloas of Olive Hill; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Lovell "Bub" and Cassie Gilliam and Lowell Jason Gilliam, all of Olive Hill, and David Michael Meade of Grayson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Jo and Michael Rayburn of Olive Hill and Michelle Sammons of Grayson; three nephews, Tyler Michael Rayburn, Gavin Gilliam and Damian Sammons; two nieces, Summer Ann Gilliam and Pandora Meade; and her special pets, Rexi and Jasmine. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. A special thanks to four little girls who helped her and were very special in her life, Brooklyn Sloas and Vanessa, Hannah and Tori Carroll.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Brother Josh Bond and Brother Andy Bond officiating. Burial was in the Perry’s Branch Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends visited from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, and until the service Friday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home, 145 Gearhart Street, Olive Hill.
Kyle Kiser, Kory Kiser, David Craig, Rodney Richmond, Allen McGlone and Adam Butler served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Rayburn, Tyler Rayburn, Chris Fairchild and David Conley.
