Jan. 26, 2012 — A Cincinnati man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a collision with a school bus in Lawton.
Mark Carpenter, 52, Carpenter crossed the center line and struck the oncoming bus on KY 955 just after 7 a.m. The school bus was driven by Drema Wells, 49 of Olive Hill and had 22 children on board at the time of the collision. Neither Wells nor any of the children were injured in the crash.
Carpenter was transported to St. Clair Medical Center were he was treated and released. He was then arrested and lodged in the Carter County Detention Center jail by Trooper First Class Jim Ryland. Carpenter was charged with DUI 1st, operating on a suspended license, no insurance, no registration plates and driving without a license / negligent in accident.
It was determined that Carpenter was intoxicated by substances other than alcohol.
Trooper Ryland was assisted on the scene by Olive Hill Fire Department and Carter county EMS.
The collision remains under investigation.
